LAHORE, Feb 6: Two alleged criminals were killed in an ‘encounter’ with police in Sheraz Town in Green Town early on Monday.Green Town police said victims Asad alias Asadi Cheema and Tanveer Arif alias Teero, both residents of Salar Bhattian, Sheikhupura district, were wanted by police of Faisalabad, Sheikhupura and other districts in a number of dacoities, robberies and kidnappings for ransom.

They had also kidnapped the family of the then Satiana SHO and later released them.

According to the FIR lodged under sections 324, 353, 148, 149 and 186 of the PPC and 13/20/65 of Arms Ordinance, a patrolling police team led by Nawab Town Sub-inspector Dilshaad Ahmad signaled a car which was coming from the canal side on Shaukat Khanum Road.

Three suspects riding another car coming behind the first one opened fire on police, allowing their two accomplices to manage to flee with their vehicle toward College Road.

The policemen radioed a wireless for cordoning off the area and started chasing the suspected cars which entered a street in Shiraz Town near Baggrian. The three car occupiers managed to escape while resorting to firing, but their two accomplices in the other car took position and opened fire on police. Law enforcers also took their position and asked the suspects to surrender, but they started firing which was returned.

In the meantime, the Nawab Town SHO and patrolling police also joined their colleagues in the shootout. After half-an-hour crossfire, the police found both suspects dead. Police identified suspects from documents recovered from their pockets and seized two weapons from the spot. — Staff Reporter
