LAHORE, Feb 2: A crossfire between robbers and a food outlet owner during a robbery bid left three people injured, including a robber, on Ferozpure Road in Ichhra early on Thursday.

The injured robber, who was held in a brief search operation, told police that he had been committing robberies in Karachi, allegedly for a political party.

Model Town SP (operation) Malik Muhammad Awais told Dawn that four robbers stormed the outlet, Pizza Inn, owned by Shaukat Ali, around 2:30am and tried to loot cash and valuables at gunpoint.

He said Shaukat and his brother Muhammad Ali offered resistance following which the robbers attacked Ali with butt of their guns.

Shaukat, who was carrying a pistol, opened fire on the robbers, injuring one of them. Meanwhile, a gunshot fired by the robbers hit Shaukat, leaving him injured too.

On hearing the gunshots, shopkeepers and some patrolling policemen got alert.

The SP said that immediately after the botched up robbery bid, the outlaws riding two bikes sped towards Ahata Maul Chand. He said Mohafiz Force personnel, who were later joined by a heavy police contingent, gave them a chase.

He said the robbers left their bikes and started running, but the police continued the chase and managed to capture the injured one, identified as Sadaan Gull (32).

The SP said the injured were shifted to the Services Hospital by Rescue 1122 ambulances.

He said Sadaan, who was in stable condition, told police that he was a member of a gang and belonged to Tribal Area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mr Awais said the gang had recently moved to Lahore from Karachi where, according to them, they used to commit robberies for a political party.

He said the police seized two motorcycles being used by the robbers and registered a case under Section 394 of the Pakistan Penal Code. ROBBERY:

A trader and his family were deprived of valuables and their car by robbers on Thursday.

Two robbers approached a trader, Mubashir Shahid and his family near his residence in Muslim Town and took them hostage at gunpoint.

The outlaws took the hostages to a secluded section of canal and forced them out of the car.

They deprived the family of 60 tola gold ornaments and two cell phones and drove away in their car. INJURED ROBBER DIES:

An alleged robber, who was caught injured following an encounter in T&T colony, Lytton Road, a couple of days ago, succumbed to his wounds at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Thursday. Muhammad Asif of Nawankot and his accomplice were escaping after a street robbery when two Mohafiz Force personnel tried to stop them near Chauburj.

The outlaws tried to flee and one of them entered a house in T&T Colony from where police arrested him after a brief crossfire, in which he had received a bullet injury. SHOT DEAD:

A 40-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by his elder brother at his business in Dhobi Ghaat of Shafeeqabad on Thursday.

The police took Arif Shafee into custody for killing his brother, Muhammad Asif. Shafeeqabad police said both brothers dealt in furniture business.

Their employee Haneef told the police that he was at the shop's rooftop when he heard gunshots. He came downstairs and saw Asif lying in a pool of blood. Arif told him a stray bullet had hit Asif and then took the body to home.

The police rushed to the victim's home and established Arif opened fire at Asif, father of a minor girl, following a quarrel.

Quoting the family, the police said Arif exchanged words with Asif who used to borrow money from people. BURNT:

A 30-year-old man was burnt alive by the wife of his elder brother for "honour" in Model Colony Walton Road on Thursday.

Factory Area police took the suspect identified as Nadia into custody and booked her in a murder case lodged by the victim's wife, Razia.

Police inquiries showed that the woman initially said Akram Masih, a father of two, had set himself on fire at her home.

The police interrogated her when they found a deep scar in the victim's head. The woman confessed to killing Akram, saying he had tried to flirt with her. FIRES:

Valuables worth hundreds of thousands were reduced to ashes in three fires reported in different parts of the city on Thursday.

A fire broke out in the plastic straps godown of Abul Waheed near Saggian Bridge, burning down valuables worth Rs100,000.

Another fire broke out in the general store of Haji Jameel in Begumpura locality of Baghbanpura, gutting valuables worth thousands. The short-circuit was believed to be the cause of blaze.

Valuables worth thousands were gutted after a fire erupted in a house near Murghi Khana Chowk, Jorrey Pul, when a live candle fell on clothes.
