KARACHI, Feb 1: The federal investigation agency (FIA) on Wednesday claimed to have recovered Rs740 million by resolving major scams in 2011 that included the NICL corruption case and financial misappropriation in key state-owned organisations that included the Pakistan State Oil (PSO), said a statement.

“The FIA succeeded in recovering Rs740 million in the NICL, the PSO and other organisations fraud cases including recovery of Rs60 million by banking courts,” said an FIA statement sharing details of the federal agency’s performance during 2011 in its Sindh zone.

“In FIA Sindh zone, a total of 425 cases were registered and 330 accused were arrested. In all 359 cases were challaned in different courts of law, out which 267 ended in conviction.”

It said that the FIA immigration Karachi handled more than three million passengers and 266,151 crew members. A total of 3,378 passengers were detected and offloaded because of incomplete and forged documents, it added.

“During 2011, a total of 6,223 people were deported through launches and boats from Oman, Muscat, and other Gulf countries. A majority of those people were released after initial inquiry, though a few were sent to FIA anti-human trafficking circle for legal action under the defined law,” the statement added.—Staff Reporter
