KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Friday said that time for “divide and rule” politics has ended in the country, DawnNews reported.

Praising MQM’s services at a massive rally in Sukker, he said that his party presented the bill for the rights of karachiites in National Assembly.

During his telephonic speech from London, he said that MQM stopped the controversial Kala Bagh Dam.

The party chief said that it would be difficult to run the country without Sindh’s contribution to the national exchequer.

He said that he respected the province more than his own life. “Sindh needs a leader not a dacoit,” said the MQM chief.

He said that his party wants to eradicate feudalism from the country. “Era of feudalism will soon be ended in Sindh,” he added.

Hussain urged Sindhi and Urdu speaking people to come closer bridging the gaps. He said there was no old or new Sindhi here as all the people living in this province are Sindhis.

He also called for maintaining peace in Sindh and said the nationalists talk of Shah Latif but that great poet has given the message of peace. “Today’s rally has rejected the hatred,” he added.

Hussain said he hates using the word minorities adding that people belonging to any religion living in this country are Pakistanis and have equal rights like others.

The MQM chief called for resolving Balochistan issue amicably and restoring peace in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.

He urged the government to bring the killers of citizens to justice and protect the life of lawyers and people.

He also raised the civic issues of Sukkur saying half the population of this city was deprived of potable water and added that the citizens were made to get water through tankers.

Earlier, the MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar while addressing the public gathering said that his party did not want to divide Sindh and will never support any such attempt.

Party workers reached from various cities including Ghotki, Khairpur, Noshero Feroze, Nawabshah, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jaccobabad and Kashmore.
