THATTA, Jan 26: Police claimed to have killed a dacoit carrying Rs500,000 as head-money along with one of his hostages while another victim was recovered.
However, villagers dispute the claim of police, maintaining that a clash took place between two groups of outlaws operating in the forest over ransom demand.The clash took the lives of a dacoit and a hostage while the second man, taking advantage of the encounter, escaped into the forest.
Sujawal police said that an outlaw Sheru Tetri and hostage landlord Intizar Solangi died in an encounter in Pinnah forest on Thursday.
Sources said that the gang of Sheru Tetri operating in Pinnah and Khaddi forests along the right bank of Indus kidnapped Intizar Slangi and his companion Ali Nawaz Solangi more than two week ago and kept them in the forest.
DSP Gul Abbas, on a tip-off, along with police officials cordoned off the forest and after a brief encounter recovered one of the hostages Ali Nawaz Solangi and the body of another victim Intizar Solangi.
Some villagers disagreeing with police version told reporters that a clash took place between the two groups of criminals operating in Thatta forest on the custody of hostages, following differences on ransom.
They said dacoit Sheru and a hostage were killed while others fled providing an opportunity to hostage Ali Nawaz Solangi to escape.
No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.
