LAHORE, Jan 25: An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday granted a post-arrest bail to Alhamra Cultural Complex security in charge Maj Muhammad Saleem (retired).

He was booked for showing negligence in security arrangements during a musical function arranged by a private group of colleges wherein three female students had died and many others injured after a stampede broke out when the concert ended.

The accused through his counsel argued that he was falsely implicated in the case. He said the incident was just a mishap that took three lives. He pointed out that the college administration had been holding such programmes for many years and no such unfortunate incident was ever happened.

The accused further stated that the stampede happened when a student just for fun raised an alarm that there was a bomb in the complex.

He said there was no negligence on the part of the college administration and the security staff of the complex. He urged the court to give him concession of bail in the largest interest of justice.

The judge heard the arguments and granted bail to the accused on surety bonds of Rs100,000. The father of a victim student had an FIR registered against the accused and others.
