KARACHI, Jan 24: Two witnesses on Tuesday picked out a suspect during an identification parade held before a judicial magistrate in the Seaview bomb blast case.

The suspect — Mohammad Dawood alias Waleed alias Ishaq — said to be associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, has been booked and arrested for his alleged involvement in organizing several attacks in the city, including the bomb blast near Seaview in November last year.

Judicial Magistrate (south) Anwar Memon conducted the identification parade after completing legal formalities. The suspect was lined up among dummies and the court called the witnesses to identify him.

Inspector Ghulam Rasool Rajpar and a private witness, Mohammad Ijaz, identified the suspect.

On Jan 16, the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts in Karachi had remanded the suspect in police custody till Jan 30 in a number of cases including bomb blasts at the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine and Seaview, encounter with police and possessing illicit weapons.

The CID police claimed to have arrested the suspect on Jan 14 within the remit of the Mochko police station after a shoot-out.

According to the prosecution, three suspected militants riding a vehicle blew themselves up when they were intercepted by policemen in the Seaview area on the evening of Nov 16 for checking.

Two policemen also died in the incident.

A case (FIR 406/11) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 114 (abettor present when offence is committed), 109 (abetment), 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Sections 3 and 4 of the Explosive Substance Act read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Darakshan police station.

Final autopsy report sought A sessions court on Tuesday directed a medico-legal officer to submit a report in a case pertaining to the 2008 murder of a retired female professor.

Two accused — Saleem alias Shabbir and Khalida — have been charged with killing their employer, Professor Dr Zeba Zakia, in January 2008.

Dr Fareeda Mobin of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre appeared in court and deposed that she conducted the post-mortem examination of the deceased.

However, she did not submit the final report about the cause of death and the court directed her to file the same till Feb 8.

The body of the 75-year-old victim was found dumped in the bushes on Jan 29, 2008 within the remit of the Sachal police station. The victim was unmarried and used to live alone in her Gulshan-i-Iqbal residence.

A case (FIR 55/2008) was registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the PPC at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station.
