KARACHI, Jan 19: A teenager was killed in his house in mysterious circumstances on Thursday, police said.
They said assailants apparently sneaked into the house within the remit of the Bilal Colony police station in Sector 5-M, New Karachi, and slaughtered 17-year-old Ehtesham Israr.
The television in the room, where he was killed, was on while his other family members were also present in the house, they added.
The police said that the assailants escaped from the house after committing the murder. They said that the victim’s younger brother raised a hue and cry when he found Ehtesham slaughtered.
The police said that there was no evidence of anyone’s forced entry into the house. They said the murder weapon was also missing and it seemed that the killers had taken it away with them.
The area SHO said he suspected that either someone from within the family had killed the youth or someone known to them was involved in the killing.
“The family is not sharing much information with the police,” the SHO said, adding that the family would be grilled after the victim’s funeral.
The police said the victim was a first year (Class XI) student and among four brothers and sisters.
The body was handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, they said.
Lyariites protest against raids Residents of Lyari took to the streets on Thursday, creating roadblocks and burning tyres following a police raid at some ‘gambling dens’ in the area.
It was following the police raids and detentions of suspects that residents in different parts of Lyari came out onto the roads.
The protest forced the closure of all shops and businesses in the area.
There were also reports of aerial firing in the area. A man named Nadeem was reported injured.
Areas where people protested against the raids included Husht Chowk, Dubai Chowk, Tannery Road and some other parts of Lyari.
SSP-South Naeem Ahmed Shaikh said police had conducted raids at two gambling dens in Chakiwara and Kalakot and rounded up eight suspects in the localities.
The two police raids were conducted by recently posted SP-City Nasir Aftab, the police said.
