Man shoots brother, sister dead

CHAKWAL, Jan 18: A man gunned down his sister and brother over land dispute in Shahpur village, the police said on Wednesday.

Safia Begum reported to Kallar Kahar police that her husband, Mohammad Jahangir had a land dispute with his brother, Abdul Khaliq.

On Tuesday evening, both the brothers exchanged hot words over the issue. Other family members also came there to resolve the dispute.

However, Abdul Khaliq, in fury, pulled out a pistol and opened indiscriminate fire at his brother, Mohammad Jahangir and sister, Abida Yasmin who died on the spot while Jahangir was rushed to the DHQ hospital.

He was, later, referred to a Rawalpindi hospital due to his critical condition but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

Two other relatives also received bullet injuries. Dhudial police arrested the murderer after registering a case against him. — Correspondent

NA speaker visits museum

TAXILA, Jan 18: Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza on Wednesday visited the Taxila Museum and Julian, an ancient site of Gandhara civilisation.

On her arrival, Dr Fazal Dad Kakar, Director Federal Department of Archaeology briefed her about the history of Gandhara Civilization, various stupas, statues and other artifacts in the museum.

She also visited the Buddha, the Bodhisattva and Buddha galleries and evinced keen interest in them. She lauded efforts of archaeology department for preserving sites related to Buddhism. — Correspondent

Gang busted

GUJAR KHAN, Jan 18: The police reportedly arrested a gang of alleged robbers involved in looting two jewellery shops and killing a resident during a house robbery in Gujar Khan.

Waheed Khattak, SP rural division while giving the details said: “Two years ago, shops of Azam Jeweller and Ishaq Jeweller were looted by the burglars and a large quantity of gold ornaments was taken away.

A special team of expert investigators was assigned the task of bringing the outlaws to book. Two robbers, identified as Shah Wali and Subhan Ali, were apprehended who confessed to the crime along with other accomplices”.

According to the official, further interrogation revealed that the murder of Nasir Ali was also committed by these outlaws who admitted having shot him dead during a dacoity bid.

Some other members of the gang were at large and police were making all out efforts for their arrest, the SP said. According to him, Shah Wali was associated with the business of drilling bores for water in the area – a cover he used for reconnaissance of the possible targets.

Police also claimed to have recovered 16 tolas of gold ornaments, looted cash and electronic gadgets from their custody. — Correspondent

Form-B declared mandatory

RAWALPINDI, Jan 18: Students intending to appear in the upcoming intermediate examination have been asked by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi to submit their Form-B with the admission form, failing which, they would not be allowed to take the exam.

The board authorities have made submission of Form-B mandatory in order to avoid mistakes in names of students and to deter students from resorting to unfair means during the examination.

Spokesman for BISE Rawalpindi, Arsalan Cheema told Dawn on Wednesday that the schedule of intermediate examination would be finalised in March but in the meantime students should submit their Form-B.

He said: “Students will submit their admission forms online for the first time through the official website of the board and that they will be saved from the nuisance of standing in long queues.

“We will not entertain admission forms without the proof of identity and we urge the parents to help them in this regard”. — Our Reporter

New Adiala jail superintendent

RAWALPINDI, Jan 18: Malik Mushtaq Ahmed Awan, superintendent Central Jail, Lahore was posted as superintendent Central Jail, Adiala, Rawalpindi in place of Mohsin Rafiq who was transferred to Central Jail, Lahore on Wednesday, official source said.Malik Mushtaq will assume the charge on Thursday. — Staff Reporter
