Body found

SWABI, Jan 14: Chota Lahor city police found the body of an unidentified man here on Saturday.

Locals informed the police that a body of a young person was lying in the Jalsai desert area. The police collected the body and shifted it to the Chota Lahor civil hospital where it was placed for identification.

However, no one came forward till filing of this report. Officials said if the identification of the deceased was not ensured they would hand over the body to the tehsil municipal administration for burial.

Over the past two weeks three bodies have been recovered in the district.—Correspondent

Man shot dead by brother

KOHAT, Jan 14: A man shot dead his brother and injured a cousin over a property dispute in Muslimabad area on Saturday.

The Jarma police said that Hazrat allegedly killed his brother Pir Zaman and injured his cousin Shadi Nabbi over a property dispute and then fled. The injured was taken o the divisional headquarters hospital KDA for treatment.

The police have registered cases under sections 302 and 324 of Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of injured Shadi Nabi and launched efforts to arrest the culprit.—Correspondent

Police highhandedness

PESHAWAR, Jan 14: A government contractor Iqbal Shah of Derai Shabqadar has accused Mattani police of implicating him in a fake case and taking Rs525,600 from him while he was going to meet someone in the area on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday he said Inspector Saif-ur-Rehman was leading the police party which also subjected him to severe torture when he asked the reason for his arrest. “They beat me up to the extent that I fell unconscious and when I gained consciousness I was inside the Mattani police station,” he said.

The police, he said also registered a case against him for over-speeding, but ironically, they didn’t arrest the driver of the vehicle.

He said the police even did not let him ask the reasons for his arrest as they repeatedly beat him up.—Bureau Report

Result announced

PESHAWAR, Jan 14: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Technical Education on Saturday declared the result of diploma in Information Technology (DIT) (part-I and II), second term examination 2011.

In all 6,092 candidates appeared out of which 3,234 were declared successful.

The passing percentage remained at 53.09, according to a press release.—Bureau Report

Attack denounced

PESHAWAR, Jan 14: Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Masood Kausar, strongly condemned the terrorist attack on DPO Office in D.I. Khan on Saturday.

He said it spoke of state of frustration on part of the elements involved in the heinous crimes of extremism and terrorism.

The governor appreciated the courageous role of the police force in countering the attack and said the elements involved in this cowardly act would be brought to justice.

The governor also prayed for early recovery of the injured police officials.—APP

MPhil admission

PESHAWAR, Jan 14: Interviews of candidates seeking admission in MPhil programmes at Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) would be held on January 16 (Monday).

The candidates have been directed to reach IBMS campus near Shalman Park Hayatabad before 9am with related documents and certificates.

Admissions would be given to students in subjects of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Histopathology, Microbiology and Hematology after qualifying interviews in their specialties. Classes would commence from February for which all necessary arrangements have been finalised.—APP

Uplift projects

PESHAWAR, Jan 14: Speaker, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Karmatullah Khan Chagharmati said on Saturday completion of various uplift projects was a proof of his commitments towards addressing people's problems.

He expressed theses views while speaking at a public meeting at Shahi Payan. He said work on various uplift projects was underway in KP-7 constituency and government was working on a plan to provide basic amenities of life to people at their doorsteps.

Mr Chagharmati said that the contract for construction of Rs260 million Sufaidsang-Shagia road was awarded to more than one contractor in order to complete the project before stipulated time.

He said the government had started work on construction of Bhasha Dam and extension of Tarbala Dam to resolve the energy crisis on permanent basis.

He said people would soon enjoy the fruits of these endeavours. He also announced construction of Khwar bridge at village Kandi Umarzai.—APP

Death condoled

PESHAWAR, Jan 14: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain expressed grief over the demise of father of Faqeer Hussain, reporter of an Urdu language daily.

In his condolence message on Saturday, the minister expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

The minister also expressed sorrow over the death of leader of ANP Swat, Darwaish Kham, and prayed to Almighty for grating eternal peace to the departed soul.—APP
