PESHAWAR, Jan 10: The lawyers' community observed boycott of all the courts here on Tuesday against the killing of a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, Nasrullah Warriach, a day earlier.

The boycott was observed on the call of Pakistan Bar Council and Supreme Court Bar Association. The lawyers mostly stayed away from duties at the Peshawar High Court and district courts.

The secretary general of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association, Ameenur Rehman, condemned the incident and stated that the incidents of violence against lawyers were on the rise.

Mr Rehman told media persons that two days ago an advocate of the high court, Farhan Jawed, was killed by unidentified assailants. He added that two of the kidnapped lawyers, Zain Khan Khalil and Bashir Khan, had yet to be recovered by the law-enforcement agencies.

He stated that time and again they had asked the government to provide security but all their demands fell on deaf ears. Mr Rehman pointed out that Advocate Nasrullah Warriach was a respected person in the community and was a former chairman of Pakistan Bar Council's executive committee. They held a protest meeting and condemned the killing with the demand that the killers should be arrested at the earliest.
