JI stages demo

TAXILA, Jan 6: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Friday staged a protest demonstration against energy crisis, stoppage of gas supply to the industries and unjustified raise in the utility bills.Carrying placards and banners inscribed with different slogans against inflation and electricity and gas outages, the rally was taken out from community centre.

After marching through main roads, it concluded at Taxila main chowk. Despite chilly weather and rain, a large number of JI and Shabab-i-Milli activists participated in the rally.

JI President Taxila chapter Khawaja Mohammad Waqar Advocate and General Secretary Tanzeel Mudassir while addressing the participants said that the ongoing energy crisis exposed incompetence and mismanagement of the government as 14 per cent to 207 per cent increase in gas prices from January 1 was enough to break the back of the already burdened common man.

They said industrial workers, mill owners and the masses at large were already protesting against high prices and load shedding but the rulers had closed their eyes to the people’s problems. They said that in the prevailing situation, the masses should stand up against the corrupt rulers and force them to quit the government. — Correspondent
