Governor summons PA

PESHAWAR, Dec 22: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar has summoned provincial assembly session here at 4pm on Friday, says an official statement.

Officials said that MPA-elect Engineer Sajjadullah Khan was likely to take oath during the session. He was elected on the Awami National Party ticket from Kohistan District. The seat fell vacant after death of his uncle Maulana Obaidullah.

Officials in the assembly secretariat however said that they were unaware about the details of the agenda for the session. Previous session of the assembly was prorogued on Nov 24, 2011 after remaining in session only for two days. —Bureau Report

Loadshedding in Karak

KARAK, Dec 22: Over 30 hours long power outage crippled life in the district and also led to shortage of drinking water.

The residents of Tehsil Takht Nusrati said that two feeders of tehsil Takht Nusrati developed some technical faults and the entire tehsil plunged into darkness for over 30 hours creating problems for the people.

District general secretary of Khattak Ittehad Malik Fareed Azam held an emergency meeting of the organisation here on Thursday and threatened that they would block Indus highway if the Pesco did not reschedule the loadshedding.

The organisation decided that it would inform the DCO and Pesco deputy director in the first step and set a deadline for resolving the issue. —Correspondent

Six held for graft

KOHAT, Dec 22: The anti corruption department arrested six assistants to patwaris on corruption charges during raids conducted at various places in Lachi tehsil here on Thursday.

The raids conducted by the inspector of the divisional anti corruption department were carried out after complaints that the patwaris were allegedly involved in corruption and left the trainees in their offices for the official and sensitive work of measurement and transfer of land and for verification of domiciles.

The Junglekhel area police registered cases against the arrested officials on the complaint of the anti corruption department and also confiscated the record.

Meanwhile, the patwaris of Lachi and Kohat announced to observe complete strike by keeping their offices closed against the arrest of their colleagues on Friday (today). —Correspondent

Man killed by brothers

LAKKI MARWAT, Dec 22: A man was allegedly killed by his brothers over a property dispute in Begukhel village here on Thursday.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Lakki Marwat police station wherein Rasool Khan and Nasrullah shot dead their brother Kifayatullah and managed to escape after the incident.

Police registered FIR against the killers under relevant section and started investigation.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested a proclaimed absconder and recovered narcotics from him.

DPO Gulzar Ali Khan was tipped off about the presence of a wanted criminal, Bashir Khan, at his residence in Peerwala village in the vicinity of Lakki Marwat police station, an official said. He said that a police contingent carried out a raid on the house and arrested him. —Correspondent

NAB corruption cases

PESHAWAR, Dec 22: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bukhari has directed Nab officials of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to dispose off major corruption cases on priority basis without fear or favour.

He was talking to the officers of NAB during his visit to the bureau here on Thursday. NAB Deputy Chairman Javed Kazi also accompanied him.

The chairman was briefed about major corruption cases, inquiries, investigations, references with special focus on awareness and prevention strategy pending promotion cases of NAB officers also came under discussion.

The outgoing director general appreciated the KP government for its cooperation and approval of awareness and prevention strategy. —Bureau Report

Cardiology conference

PESHAWAR, Dec 22: The 20th biennial international cardiology conference is going to begin here today (Friday). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar will inaugurate the three-day conference at a local hotel.

The conference has been organised in Peshawar after a long time and it will provide an opportunity to all the stakeholders to sit together and chalk out a combined strategy for prevention and cure of heart diseases.A statement issued here said that in the current scenario by holding such conferences the organisers were proving to the whole nation and international community that Pakhtuns were peace-loving people and had deep rooted faith in the excellence of academics and research. —Bureau Report
