KARACHI: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House here on Tuesday and enquired after his health and exchanged views on the political situation, including the memo case, and the stance the government had taken for the supremacy of parliament, informed sources said.
This was the first face-to-face meeting of the prime minister with the president since December 6, the day president left for Dubai for treatment.
According to the president’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar, Mr Gilani was accompanied by Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali Khan. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah also attended the meeting.
The spokesman said the two leaders enquired after the health of the President and expressed satisfaction that Mr Zardari was in much better health.
The political situation, with particular reference to the latest developments, also came under discussion during the meeting.
In their meeting, the President and the prime minister were understood to have discussed the party and coalition government strategy and the response to the current political crisis.
According to the sources, matters pertaining to the fourth anniversary of Ms Benazir Bhutto and the planned presidential address to a joint sitting of parliament also came up for discussion in the meeting.
The prime minister, the sources said, briefed the president on developments which had taken place during his absence from the country.
The prime minister is understood to have briefed the president on his meeting with the Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani during which both of them had reportedly underscored the need for national unity to address challenges faced by the nation.
