Young couple shot dead

KOHAT, Dec 7: A young couple engaged some time back was shot dead allegedly by the maternal uncles of the girl in Sheikhan area here on Wednesday.

Their faces and bodies were also riddled with several stab wounds and were later thrown from the roof of a two-storey house.

The young boy, Afaq Baig, was reportedly abducted by the relatives of the girl and taken to Sheikhan area near Darra Adam Khel. Afaq called his sister and told her that his life was in danger as the uncles of the girl wanted to kill him. Later, Afaq was shot dead during the night.

After that, the killers went to the house of the girl, Sameena, and opened fire killing her on the spot. Police have registered a case and are investigating. —Correspondent

Cash award for Malala

PESHAWAR, Dec 7: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has appreciated the courage of people of Malakand division in testing times and said that government was rehabilitating educational institutions on priority basis.

Appreciating young Malala Yousafzai for raising her voice against destruction and closure of schools in times of terrorism, Mr Hoti said that she raised her voice in critical situation. The chief minister also announced Rs500,000 cash award for her.

A handout issued here on Wednesday said that Malala Yousafzai along with her father Ziauddin and uncles was invited by the chief minister.

Malala Yousafzai on this occasion said that Bacha Khan’s reformatory, social and educational services greatly inspired her. She demanded of the CM to set up a girls college in Mingora. —Bureau Report

Two killed in Swabi

SWABI, Dec 7: Two people were killed in separate incidents in various localities of the city here on Wednesday.

A passenger coach on its way to general bus stand hit a donkey cart near Sherdad Banda and injured Shahid Munir and Nasir Khan. They were taken to the DHQ Hospital, Swabi where Nisar succumbed to his injuries. FIR has been registered against the coach driver.

In Turlandi locality, Zar Shaid Khan was killed in exchange of fire. Hayat Khan and Farmanullah allegedly opened fire over him when the deceased was on his way to the fields. An FIR has been registered. —Correspondent

Laid to rest

NOWSHERA, Dec 7: A security personnel who was killed in South Waziristan was buried with full military honours in his ancestral graveyard in Akbar Pura area here on Wednesday.

Sepoy Mohammad Sadique was laid to rest in the presence of army personnel at his ancestral graveyard in Fazal Koruna.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Iqbal of Azakhel Payan, a landlord of the area, was shot dead by unknown persons at his Hujra.

The deceased was sitting at his hujra when the assailants opened indiscriminate fire on him.

He was taken to the DHQ Hospital, Nowshera in critical condition where doctors declared him dead. Hospital sources said he received nine bullets on his body. The motive behind the killing was sated to be old enmity. A case has been registered. —Correspondent

Two gunned down

CHARSADDA, Dec 7: Three persons were killed and six others wounded in separate incidents here on Wednesday.

In the first incident, unknown assailants gunned down Zahir, a watchman of Tarnab Bazaar, during Tuesday.

In the second incident, unknown armed men opened fire on Yaqoob Shah when he came out of his home in Akhun Dheri, Umarzai area. He was killed on the spot.

In Nesata area, a speeding motorcyclist hit a bicycle, killing Rukhsar Khan on the spot.

In another incident, six labourers sustained injuries when the stepladder they were using broke. The injured labourers were taken to DHQ Hospital, Charsadda. —Correspondent

Korean envoy visits museum

PESHAWAR, Dec 7: The ambassador of the Republic of South Korea CJ Choi visited the Peshawar Museum and appreciated the rich collection of Gandhara Civilisation.

He was received by the curator of Peshawar Museum, Professor Nidaullah Sehrai, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.

Professor Nidaullah briefed the ambassador on the Buddhist civilisation of Gandhara, the ancient name of Peshawar Valley in which Mahayana Buddhism and its art had flourished.

Professor Nidaullah gave the ambassador a guided tour of the main hall and explained the Buddha and Bodhisattva galleries. —Bureau Report
