The truck (TKJ-071), loaded with around two tonnes of copper wire, was snatched by two men on Mauripur Road, the police added.

They said the truck driver reported the matter to the police who subsequently located the vehicle near Jinnah Bridge and a chase ensued.

The police said that the truck hit the two boys, Mohammad Fayyaz and Fahim, near the bridge and later one of the bandits jumped off the fast-moving truck apparently to escape but got crushed under its rear wheels.

His accomplice later abandoned the vehicle and fled, they added.

Fayyaz died on his way to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where the injured boy, Fahim, was said to be in a serious condition.

The police said both the boys were residents of Machhar Colony and used to collect trash to earn a living.

The body of unidentified bandit was also shifted to the CHK for medico-legal formalities.

An FIR of the incident was yet to be lodged at the Baghdadi police station till filing of this report.

Shot dead The owner of a concrete blocks shop was killed in Bhitaiabad, police said.

They added that two men riding a motorbike pulled up near the shop, fired at 55-year-old Haji Mangal Khan and fled.

The victim died on the spot, said an official at the Sachal police station.

The body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The victim hailed from Mohmand Agency, the police said, believing that either a tribal enmity or a monetary dispute could be a possible motive behind the killing.
