Protest against Pesco apathy

CHARSADDA, Dec 5: The residents of Mandani bazaar took to the streets on Monday to protest killing of a local, who died when he stepped over a live electricity wire.

Locals said Shamsul Islam reported that he along with his father Haji Sardar Gul was going to fields in Malakano village near Mandani when his father put his foot on an 11000kv wire, which had fallen on the ground. As a result he was electrocuted.

The people soon after the incident blocked the area road against the Pesco authorities, chanting slogans against the concerned officials.

Meanwhile, the members of Awami Jirga Charsadda held a protest rally against Nato attack on Salala checkposts in Mohmand killing 24 security personnel.

The rally led by Assadullah, convener of Awami Jirga, was attended by PTI central vice-president Mian Mukarram Shah and social worker Shah Raza.—Correspondent

Developing backward areas

NOWSHERA, Dec 5: District Development Advisory Committee chairman MPA Maj (retd) Baseer Ahmad Khattak has said that the provincial government has announced Rs60 million for development schemes in KP-15 constituency.

Speaking at a public gathering at Nizampur here on Monday, he said that the government was determined to bring the neglected and less developed areas on a par with the developed areas of the province.

On this occasion, PPP provincial leader Mian Akmal Shah advocate, president Khattak Qaumi Movement Riaz Khattak, president PPP Khairabad Najeeb Ullah Khatak, Sher Mohammad and others also spoke.—Correspondent

Uplift schemes

PESHAWAR, Dec 5: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has directed the concerned officials to expedite work on the ongoing developmental schemes and complete them in the stipulated time.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting at Chief Minister House on Monday regarding reconstruction of the destroyed bridges, roads at an estimated cost of Rs14 billion with financial assistance of JICA.

A statement issued after the meeting said of the total amount Rs12 billion would be spent on construction of roads and bridges in different districts.

Meanwhile, the CM has said the government had given full attention to the establishment of educational institutions in different parts of the province in order to ensure provision of quality education to the people.

Speaking at another meeting at the CM house, Mr Hoti said the government was determined to solve all the problems of the people.—Bureau Report

Car lifted from Hayatabad

PESHAWAR, Dec 5: Unknown outlaws have lifted a Suzuki Mehran car from posh area of Hayatabad Township and escaped from the scene.

Registering complaint at Hayatabad police station, Arshad Khan said that he had parked his car No-LEF-7749 in front of his house at Sector K-4, Phase-3, Hayatabad on Saturday night. He said unknown car lifters came in a flash and lifted his car and fled away from the scene.

He appealed to the IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other senior police officials at Hayatabad police station to make efforts for early recovery of his stolen vehicle. He said he was a poor man and could not afford to purchase another vehicle.—APP

Protest against Nato attack

CHITRAL, Dec 5: Hundreds of people came on road at Drosh, some 45km from here on Monday, carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans condemning Nato attack on Pakistan military posts in Mohmand Agency.

The protest was led by Maulana Mahmoodul Hasan, amir JUI Drosh tehsil.

Addressing the protesters the speakers condemned aggression by Nato forces, and expressed solidarity with Pakistan army and hailed the decision to boycott the Bonn conference.

They urged government to not open Nato supply via Pakistani territory.

They also burnt an effigy of Nato chief and warned them that every Pakistani was ready to offer any sacrifice for the defence of motherland. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

The protest rally was attended by leaders of political and religious parties and people belonging to all walks of life.—APP
