KARACHI, Dec 2: A man kidnapped nine days ago in Surjani Town was recovered from Sakran in Hub tehsil of Balochistan's Lasbela district on Friday, Anti-Violent Crime Cell officials said.

Speaking at a press conference, the AVCC officials, however, added that they were unable to arrest any of the suspects involved in the kidnapping. They said that Qaiser Shahbaz was kidnapped when he was returning home after attending a wedding. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs5 million from his family and threatened to kill him if they failed to pay the ransom, the officials added.

The AVCC officials claimed that Mr Shahbaz was kidnapped by the same group that had kidnapped a professor of the Hamdard University who was released recently.

Four suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the case had already been arrested and Mr Shahbaz was recovered on the lead provided by them, the officials said.

They said that when the AVCC team along with a Citizens-Police Liaison Committee party raided the house in the Sakran area where the victim was kept, an exchange of gunfire took place during which the suspected kidnappers managed to flee.

The police recovered a huge cache of weapons from the house, they added.—Staff Reporter
