LAHORE, Nov 30: Qila Gujjar Singh police arrested four kidnappers and recovered from their custody a fourmonth-old baby boy early on Wednesday a day after he was taken away by a woman from Bibian Pakdaman shrine on Tuesday.
SHO Qadeer Ahmad told Dawn his team conducted a raid at a house in Fatehgarh (Mughalpura) at around 1:15am, recovered Azan, son of Muhammad Azam of Sheikhupura, and took two sisters Iram and Kiran and Shahzad into custody.
IIe said the woman, who abducted the child by dodging Nargis Azam, was identified as Nasreen, wife of Haji Liaquat of Quaid-i-Millat Colony, Kot Lakhpat. She was picked up during a raid at her house, the SIIO added.
Qadeer said the police first identified the woman from the CCTV footage and then examined a kidnap case registered with the Kot Lakhpat police in March 2011.
He said the then suspect identified as Nasreen, who secured bail four months after her arrest in connection with the abduction of a child from the emergency of Lahore General Hospital in March this year, was interrogated at her house.
The SHO said Nasreen claimed in preliminary interrogation that she abducted Azan for her daughter who was without issue. He, however, said police believed the woman was a habitual kidnapper.
He said further investigation was under way.
Qila Gujjar Singh Investigation In-charge Muhammad Jameel said police were conducting raids to recover a few-month-old baby also abducted by Nasreen in March this year.
