GUJAR KHAN, Nov 30: The additional district and sessions judge, Naveed Iqbal, has acquitted six accused in four different murder cases on Wednesday.

According to sources in the court, a police constable, Asif Ali Kiani of Chakwal district police, has been acquitted of the charges of killing Tauqeer who had allegedly escaped from the custody of the Chakwal police in 2010.

A murder case was later registered with the Jatli police station under section 302PPC against the constable who had reportedly fired at Tauqeer in the fields near Sohawa-Chakwal road. However, while the case was under trial, the complainant, Mazhar Hussain, and the heirs of Tauqeer reached a compromise with the accused who was therefore acquitted by the court.

In another case Mahfooz Akhtar had got a murder case registered against Farah Adeeba and Mohammad Arslan alleging that they strangulated his old mother Zainab Bibi with the motive to grab her property.

The learned judge gave the benefit of doubt for insufficient evidence and ordered acquittal of both the accused.

While pronouncing the decision of another murder case the judge acquitted three accused Zahid, Naveed and Shakeel who were charged with the murder of Mohammad Ashraf during an alleged bid to snatch his carry van in 2009. According to police, these accused had confessed of murdering Mohammad Ashraf during police investigation in Chakwal where they were arrested in a dacoity case. The learned judge after hearing the prosecution termed evidence against the three accused insufficient for want of eye-witness and acquitted them of the murder charges.

INFANT RECOVERED: A two-year-old infant, Mohammad Abdullah, was recovered from the unlawful custody of his father Mohammad Anwar and was handed over to the mother, Rehana Mehboob.

Ms Mehboob had lodged a petition that her husband, with whom she had estranged relations, had snatched her son. The court had earlier issued directions to the SHO Gujar Khan for the recovery of the child.— Correspondent
