Two die on road

KARAK, Nov 30: Two persons were killed and five other seriously injured in two separate road accidents here on Wednesday, police said.

In the first incident, three friends were going to Sabirabad on their motorbike when they were hit by a car near Ali Khel Chowk injuring them seriously. They were rushed to the DHQ Hospital where Zahiruddin of Ghundi Mir Khankhel succumbed to the injuries.

In another incident, one person was killed and three were seriously injured in an accident on Sabirabad-Shakardara road.

Police said that a passenger pickup going to Shakardara fell into a deep ravine near Gurguri Eidal Khel area seriously injuring four persons. They were rushed to a nearby health centre where one of them identified as Murad Ali died. —Correspondent

School inaugurated

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30: The Canadian High Commissioner in Pakistan, Ross Hynes, inaugurated a newly-constructed government girls’ primary school in Dager Mera village of Battagram on Wednesday.

The school was part of a larger programme to support primary education in Battagram following the earthquake of 2005, implemented by Save the Children and funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

During the visit to Union Council Kozabanda, the high commissioner praised the work of ‘Save the Children’ which, under the project, trained over 300 teachers, improved the quality of 100 schools, and provided safe drinking water facilities at 29 institutions. This has already resulted in 37 per cent increase in school enrolment and a marked increase in school completion rates in Battagram district. —Our Reporter

Policemen sent to jail

NOWSHERA, Nov 30: The additional sessions judge on Wednesday sent an SHO and sub-inspector to jail after rejecting their bail before arrest plea in a triple murder case.

The SHO of Khazana police station, Charsadda Razi Mohammad, and sub-inspector Sabir were arrested from the court premises after Additional Sessions Judge Mahmudul Hassan Khattak did not confirm their bail plea. Both are co-accused in a triple murder case in which a senior inspector of police and two other persons were killed in May, 2011.

Advocate Mian Rashid Ali Shah appeared in the court on behalf of the affected family. He argued that both the SHO and SI were supporting the ‘killers’, so they should be treated as co-accused and given penalty in accordance with law. —Correspondent

Polio vaccination

KOHAT, Nov 30: The National Research and Development Foundation has urged the ulema to try to remove misconceptions about polio vaccination among the people.

The in charge of the Kohat branch of the National Research and Development Foundation, Saad Riaz Paracha, said in a press release that they had decided to hold a training workshop for ulema so that they could persuade the parents to administer polio drops to their children.

The workshop would be held at Liaquat Memorial Hospital from Dec 8, 2011 to Dec 9, 2011 which could also benefit ulema. —Correspondent

Work inaugurated

ABBOTTABAD, Nov 30: Provincial Minister for Industries Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah inaugurated work on Phase 7 of Hattar Industrial Estate, here on Wednesday.

Speaking at a ceremony in Hattar, he said that by promoting industrial sector the government would provide maximum job opportunities to unemployed youth. He said that the KP government had established seven new industrial zones in the province, while work on four more industrial zones was underway.

He said that in order to overcome the loadshedding problem, the provincial government had started a number of hydrel power projects.

The minister said that Rs350 million had been approved for the rehabilitation and maintenance for roads in Hattar industrial estate. —Correspondent

TMA officials suspended

TIMERGARA, Nov 30: DCO Lower Dir Mahmood Aslam Wazir suspended here on Wednesday seven officials of tehsil municipal administration Samar Bagh for negligence in duty.

The DCO along with sub divisional magistrate Samar Bagh Mohammad Nawaz paid a surprise visit to the TMA office and checked presence and performance of the officials.

The administrative officers later visited Samar Bagh bazaar and checked rates of various daily use items. He directed the TMA to control profiteering, hoarding and overcharging by the traders. He also visited Samar Bagh hospital and directed the staff to ensure its presence and provide all possible facilities to the patients. —Correspondent

JI to hold rallies

PESHAWAR, Nov 30: In order to condemn the Nato attacks on  Pakistani checkposts in Mohmand Agency, Jamaat-i-Islami has announced holding of countrywide protest rallies and demonstration on Friday.

The rallies will be held on the appeal of the JI central amir Syed Munawar Hassan. —Bureau Report

94 suspects arrested

PESHAWAR, Nov 30: Police claimed to have arrested 94 suspected persons during operations in the limits of different police station here on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said that 37 people had been rounded up in the jurisdictions of Gulberg police station and most of them belonged to Swat, Bajaur Agency, Hangu and other tribal regions. The rest of people had been arrested in the limits of Tehkal police, Ghundai Camp and Subhanabad areas.

He said that SSP Peshawar Tahir Ayub had directed all the subordinates to keep vigilance on the roads and pathways to check suspected people and vehicles. The SSP also directed police to check vehicles with tinted glasses. —Bureau Report

Appeal for help

PESHAWAR, Nov 30: Parents of an eight-year-old boy have appealed to the government to pay for the costly treatment of his son suffering from a deadly liver disease.

Talking to journalists at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Muzaraf Shah a resident of Gadar Mardan, said that his son Hamza Khan had been suffering from liver cirrhosis and they could not afford the expensive treatment abroad.

He said that he was a daily wager and was spending whatever he was earning but it was not possible for him to pay for liver transplant of his son, which was the only available treatment for the disease.
