LAHORE, Nov 28: An army soldier was found murdered in a hotel's room in Nawankot on Monday.

Nawankot police said 38-year-old Muhammad Arshad of Minowalwal, Kasur, hired a room in a hotel along with his unidentified friend on Saturday evening.

He was spotted dead on Monday morning by hotel staff after they opened the door following no response. The victim was attacked on the head with a blunt weapon apparently by his 'suspected' fellow who managed his escape. Police suspected the victim might have been intoxicated by the suspect before attack.

Arshad, who was an SSG commando and currently posted at Tarbela, had been on a month leave now-a-days. He was bachelor.

Police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case.

Earlier, police and army officials jointly launched investigation and collected evidence from the spot.

Nawankot SHO Muhammad Javaid said investigation was under way.

Rs14m theft: The thieves entered the house of electrical engineer Naseem Rathore, paternal uncle of former capital city police officer Pervez Rathore, in A-Block, looted Rs300,000 in cash, 250-tola gold ornaments, defence saving certificates worth Rs5 million, cell phones and other valuables and fled.

Mr Naseem, who owns a consultancy firm, informed the police that he and his family members reached home after attending a funeral to find the theft as things were scattered all around.

Investigators lifted finger prints and other evidence from the crime scene. Initial investigation showed that the thieves had entered the house from a portion of the kitchen.

In another incident, unidentified people broke open the cloth shop of Kabir Husain Shah in Chuhng police precincts and made off with cloth and cash worth Rs3.3 million.

ROBBERY: Three robbers barged in the house of Qasim Shahzad in Townhip and fled after looting cash and valuables worth Rs2 million.

Two robbers stormed the clinic of Dr Imtiaz in Samanabad and looted Rs10,000 in cash. They also injured Dr Imtiaz with butt of guns when he offered resistance.

Robbers entered Ziaul Hasan's house in Defence B police limits and looted cash and valuables worth Rs700,000.

BURNT: Wahdat Colony police found the burnt body of a 25-year-old man at Ashiqabad Chowk and shifted it for autopsy early on Monday. Officials collected evidence from the spot. The Wahdat Colony SHO said further investigation was under way.
