LAHORE, Nov 27: Unidentified people shot and killed a 35-year-old trader near Bazaar Sadakaran in Mochi Gate on Sunday.

Police could not ascertain the motive for the attack.

Quoting witnesses, police said Azhar Fareed Khan of Aamir Road, Shadbagh, was walking along the road when two people approached him and opened fire.

Azhar, who suffered three bullets, was later pronounced dead at Mayo Hospital.

City SP Operation Muhammad Anwer Khaitran told Dawn that Azhar, who was vice-president of traders' association of Bazaar Sadakaran, was going on foot after parking his bike near his shop when two masked people opened fire on him from a distance of few yards and ran off.

He said Azhar, father of three, dealt in artificial jewellery.

The SP said there were reports that the victim was involved in interest-driven monetary transactions, adding the motive for the killing would be cleared at a later stage.

Police shifted the body for autopsy. Cable operator killed:

A 28-year-old cable operator was killed and his employee was injured when unidentified people opened fire on their office in Farooq Ganj on Sunday.

Misri Shah police said Jan Sher Khan, father of one, was killed and his employee Muhammad Saleem was injured in the shooting which took place in the evening.

Further investigation was underway till the filing of the report.

ACCIDENT: A 52-year-old man was killed apparently in a road accident near Nawab Town police station on Sunday.

Police said the man, not yet identified, suffered wounds after he was hit by a speeding vehicle and died instantly.

The body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital's morgue for legal process.
