Two shot dead for honour

PESHAWAR, Nov 26: A man and a woman were shot dead in an honour related incident at Sarband in the suburbs of Peshawar on Saturday evening.

An official said accused Imran killed Fida Hussain outside his residence at Peshtakhara Bala and then shot dead his wife at home and escaped to evade arrest.

A complainant Aftab, relative of the woman, informed police the accused believed his wife had illicit relations with the deceased and thus killed both of them at different places.

Both the accused and victims are stated to be close relatives and permanent residents of Darwazgai, but they had shifted to Peshtakhara recently.—Bureau Report

Clerics’ entry banned

ABBOTTABAD, Nov 26: Entry of 27 clerics of different sects into Abbottabad has been banned under section 144.

According to a notification, the section 144 will be for one month and strict action will be taken against those violating it.

Meanwhile, at a meeting on Saturday chaired by Commissioner Hazara Khalid Khan Umerzai it was decided that Frontier Constabulary and army would be kept on high alert to maintain peace and order in Hazara Division during Muharram. The meeting reviewed security measures taken in Abbottabad, Haripur and Mansehra districts to ensure peaceful passage of Muharram.—Correspondent

Youth parliament

PESHAWAR, Nov 26: A civil society organisation, Pakistan Progressive Vision Organisation (PPVO), will establish youth parliament in the provinces and urged the youth to play their role in freeing the country from clutches of the corrupt politicians.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday the PPVO chairman Dr Khalil Ahmed Khan said some 800 people had already got registration, who will be trained on how to raise voice against the injustices. He said the members would be supported to contest elections in future and help the poor and helpless people in the society.

He said unemployment, price hike and lawlessness were the main issues but the rulers were busy serving their own interests.—Bureau Report

Two killed in Nowshera

NOWSHERA, Nov 26: Two persons were killed and another injured in two different incidents here on Saturday.

In the first incident Khalid Ullah Khan hailing from Rahim Abad, Badrashi was killed and his brother Amerullah was injured as the soil they were digging collapsed. The local people retrieved the body of Khalid while his brother was retrieved from the debris alive. He was taken to hospital.

In the second incident body of 18-year-old Tahir Khan of Mita Khelo was found near cricket stadium Nowshera Kalan. He was missing for last two days. Police said the teen was strangled as sign of torture around his neck were visible.—Correspondent

Modern means of farming

TIMERGARA, Nov 26: Farmers have been urged to apply modern means of farming to boost production in the region.

Akhtar Ali, agriculture research officer at agricultural research centre, Mingora during a visit to Talash on Saturday told Dawn the entire Malakand region had potential to yield every kind of crop and fruit because its natural environment was conducive for agriculture.

He said 80 demonstration plots for wheat were being set up by the Swat research centre throughout the region. He said the plots would cover four kanals of irrigated land. He added the plots would be set up in Swat, Malakand agency and Lower Dir.

He said the farmers would also be provided with technical knowledge and training so that they could better manage the plots.—Correspondent

Teachers’ problems

PESHAWAR, Nov 26: The demands of the basic medical sciences association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will be given due consideration, says special secretary health Dr Noor-ul-Iman. He was talking to members of the provincial cabinet of the association led by provincial president Prof Dr Jamil ur Rehman.

The meeting discussed the problems being faced by basic medical sciences teachers and the reasons leading to a province-wise protest by the association.

Special secretary health assured the delegation that the issue of deduction of allowances from their salaries would also be sorted out. He also urged the office bearers of the association to postpone their boycott.—Bureau Report

Compensation cheques

KOHAT, Nov 26: The DCO Kohat on Saturday distributed compensation cheques among the relatives of the victims of terrorism acts belonging to the Frontier Region of Kohat.

The DCO Shahidullah Khan distributed 24 cheques worth Rs3.1 million among the aggrieved families.—Correspondent
