KARACHI, Nov 25: Three policemen picked out a suspect as one of the men who had attacked a police bus in Chakra Goth during an identification parade before a judicial magistrate on Friday.

The suspect — Inam-ul-Haq — has been arrested for his alleged involvement in an armed attack on a bus carrying policemen in Chakra Goth on Aug 19 that had left three policemen dead.

The suspect was brought before the court of Judicial Magistrate (east) Aleem Ahmed, who conducted the identification parade after completing all legal formalities.

Constables Asif, Saleem and Punnar of the reserve police identified the suspect.

The suspect along with dummies was lined up before the magistrate and the witnesses were called in to identify him.

While assigning his role in the commissioning of the alleged offence, the witnesses deposed that they were called from Sukkur to maintain law and order following an armed attack on the house of Ashiq Chandio of the Sindh Dost Party on Aug 19 and the suspect along with his other accomplices opened fire on their bus when they were being transported to the place of the incident.

According to the prosecution, at least four people, including three policemen, were killed and 30 others wounded when a group of 15 to 20 gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire on the bus carrying dozens of policemen on the night of Aug 19 at Chakra Goth in Korangi. Two of the suspected attackers were also killed in retaliatory fire.

A case (FIR 434/2011) was registered under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempted murder), 302 (premeditated murder), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Zaman Town police station.

Earlier, the court had released two suspects — Abdul Hakeem and Atif alias Asif — for want of sufficient evidence.
