KARACHI, Nov 22: A religious seminary teacher and member of the Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal Jamaat was killed inside his home in North Nazimabad late on Monday night.

Police said the killing took place in Wahid Colony, Block B, North Nazimabad, within the remit of the North Nazimabad police station where assailants barged into the home of Qari Zafar, 40, son of Mohammad Ramazan, and shot him dead.

The victim suffered bullet wounds in the head and died on the spot. The suspects escaped.

Police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The victim was a teacher at Ashraful Madaris in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, police said.

A spokesman for the ASWJ said Qari Zafar was the proscribed outfit's unit-in-charge of Wahid Colony.

Spokesman Maulana Taj Hanfi described the incident a part of continuing killings of ASWJ members and leaders in the city.

The victim's funeral was held in Wahid Colony and later his body was transported to his hometown in Muzaffargarh district, Punjab.

Police registered an FIR (554/2011) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) against unknown gunmen on the complaint of Fidaur Rehman at the North Nazimabad police station.

Young man shot dead

An unidentified young man was shot dead on Nishtar Road within the remit of the Garden police station on Tuesday morning.

Police said the incident took place near Shoe Market in Garden, where two men riding a motorcycle targeted the young man.

The victim said to be in his early 20s suffered a gunshot wound in the head and died on the spot, police said.

They said the victim was wearing sky-blue shalwar-kameez and appeared to be an Iranian Baloch by origin.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a postmortem examination and later moved to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

Police registered a case against unidentified attackers on behalf of the state.

Watchman shot dead

In another incident an elderly watchman was shot dead in Ittehad Town, Baldia, within the remit of the Mochko police station.

The incident took place in Ittehad Town where 65-year-old Haya Khan, son of Misri Khan, was standing in front of his home when unidentified men opened fire on him.

SHO Nasir Mehmood said the victim was a resident of the same area and worked as a watchman of a local garment factory, adding that he belonged to Darra Adamkhail. Police suspected a tribal feud as a possible motive behind the killing.

The body was shifted to the CHK for legal formalities.

No case was registered till late in the evening.

Killed by robbers

A young man was killed when he put up resistance against armed suspects in the SITE area on Tuesday evening.

Police said the incident took place on the road between Habib Bank and the Ghani Chowrangi where Abdul Rasheed, 26, son of Abdul Sattar, resisted armed suspects trying to snatch his motorcycle.

The suspects shot him and rode away with the two-wheeler.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident occurred within the remit of the SITE-A police station.

The victim was a resident of Qasba Colony, police added.
