Bid to smuggle liquor into jail
RAWALPINDI, Nov 16: Two persons, who tried to smuggle liquor filled in water bottles into Adiala Jail, were arrested on Wednesday by the security guards posted at the prison gate.
The three bottles of liquor filled in large-sized water bottles were spotted by the jail guards during the checking of food items brought by the visitors for their relatives serving the jail terms.
Mohammad Akram and Wajid Ali, residents of Sohawa brought some food items along with three water bottles filled with liquor for their relative Mohammad Nawaz who had been serving jail term in a drug smuggling case.
However, their bid to smuggle liquor into the jail was frustrated by the security staff.
Both the accused, Mohammad Akram and Wajid Ali were handed over to the Sadar Barooni police which registered a case against them. — Staff Reporter
‘Netherlands keen to invest’
RAWALPINDI, Nov 16: Brushing aside the law and order situation, the Netherlands ambassador saw vast potential for investment in Pakistan and extended cooperation to enhance bilateral trade ties with the country.
“Having 180 million population Pakistan has great potential for investment, vast space for business activities and there is no alarming issue of law and order situation in the country,” said H Gajus Scheltema, the ambassador of Netherlands in a meeting during his visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Wednesday.
President RCCI Jawed Akhtar Bhatti, Senior Vice President Raja Amer Iqbal, former presidents, members of the executive committee and other businessmen of the region were also present on the occasion.
The ambassador said that his country wanted to enhance trade ties with Pakistan on priority basis. He said both the countries had good political ties and in future trade relations would also be enhanced. He promised that Pakistan business community would be facilitated in visa-related issues.
Speaking on the occasion, President RCCI Jawed Bhatti said that RCCI believed in promoting trade activities among all the countries across the globe. He said that trade volume between the two countries was around $836 million which is not up to the mark. — A Reporter
Poor cleanliness
RAWALPINDI, Nov 16: The residents of Dhok Elahi Baksh voiced concern over poor cleanliness system in the area and demanded of the high authorities to take notice of the situation.
Talking to this news agency here on Wednesday, the residents of the Dhok Elahi Bux Union Council-42 complained that the heaps of garbage lying scattered were causing foul smell while dug-up roads were aggravating the problems. The open manholes on the road could cause accidents, they said.
They said that the civic body must take on its responsibility to maintain cleanliness in the area. — Online
New sewerage lines
RAWALPINDI, Nov 16: In order to improve drainage system, the Wasa administration decided to lay down new sewerage lines in Satellite Town.
MD Wasa Raja Shaukat Mehmood directed the Wasa staff to replace the broken drainage lines as he inspected the sewerage system in the area. — Online
