KARACHI, Oct 27: A doctor was booked on Thursday for killing his doctor wife in CAA Colony late on Wednesday night.

Earlier, it was assumed that the young lady doctor, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances in her home, had committed suicide.

Soon after the murder, the police said that the lady doctor, Najia, wife of Dr Syed Ghulam Murtaza, shot herself in the head after an altercation with her husband on Wednesday night. She used a licensed pistol of her husband to end her life, the police said, adding that she was rushed to a private hospital where she was pronounced dead. Later, her body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.

After fulfilling legal formalities, the body was handed over to her husband, who headed for his hometown in Khairpur, the police said.

However, the ambulance carrying the body was stopped by the police on the Superhighway and made to return to Karachi after family members of the deceased staged a protest outside the Airport police station alleging that she had not committed suicide but was killed by her husband.

On the family’s insistence, the police registered a case (FIR No.257/2011) under Section 302 (premeditated murder)  of the Pakistan Penal Code against Dr Murtaza.

Station house officer of the Airport police station Noor Mohammad Wassan said that Dr Murtaza, who was travelling in his car along with the ambulance, did not return to the city. “The suspect has fled,” the SHO said, adding that the body had been kept at the Edhi morgue for the time being. The police said that the couple had married five years back and had two children. They were running a maternity home within their house, they added.

The deceased hailed from Larkana and her husband from Khairpur, the police said.

Young man killed

A young man was killed within the remit of the Pak Colony police station on Thursday.

According to the police, Saeed Baloch was driving a taxi bearing registration No PG-5871 when he was targeted at Shahnawaz Chowk in Old Golimar by two suspects riding a motorcycle.

The police said that the victim lived in Pak Colony but moved to Malir about two years back. He was a member of the Arshad Pappu gang that had a presence in Pak Colony but he moved to Malir when the group was dislodged from the area, they said.

The police believed that the victim had come to the area to meet someone when he was targeted and killed.

An FIR was yet to be lodged till the filing of the report.

Man found slaughtered

A man was found slaughtered in his house in Orangi Town early on Thursday.

Attackers barged into the house of Abdul Rasheed, 60, in Fareed Colony, Mominabad, Sector 10, Orangi Town and slit his throat after overpowering him while he was asleep.

The police said that the suspects fled after the murder.

They said that the deceased had a 16-year-old daughter from his first wife, Taj Bibi. Recently, he married off his daughter in Swat under what is known as ‘watta satta’ in local parlance to marry a 16-year-old girl, Parveen Zeba.

The police said that his both wives lived with him in the same house.

Rasheed had a one-year-old child from his second marriage, DSP Tariq Malik said.

After his murder at around 5am, the police first questioned the victim’s first wife, who alleged that Parveen Zeba was involved in the murder, the DSP said.

Subsequently, he added Zeba was questioned and she confessed to having got him killed through her friend, Saeed Khan, and his brother, Nazmeen.

Police carried out raids at some places and arrested Nazmeen, the DSP said, adding that a hunt for Saeed was on.

Deceased Rasheed was a plumber by profession, the police said, adding that his body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Police registered a case (FIR 379/2011) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (with common intention) on the complaint of Fazal Karim, the victim’s brother, against Saeed Khan, Nazmeen and Parveen Zeba.
