Witnesses summoned

RAWALPINDI, Oct 21: An Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) of Rawalpindi on Friday summoned the prosecution witnesses in PML-N legislator's escape case.

ATC Judge Shahid Rafique resumed hearing of the case of PML-N MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan and his 16 supporters who facilitated his escape from the police custody.

During the hearing not a single prosecution witness appeared in the court to record the statement.

The court summoned the prosecution witnesses and adjourned the hearing till October 29.

According to the police challan submitted in the court, Anjum Aqeel Khan who was arrested on July 15, 2011 in a land fraud case, had escaped from custody of the police outside the Shalimar police station with the help of his supporters. — A Reporter

Arms licences

ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: The deadline for revalidation of arms licences by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has been extended for another two months.

In view of the widespread rains and floods in Sindh and dengue epidemic in Punjab, the Ministry of Interior directed Nadra to extend the deadline to December 31.

Earlier, the ministry had fixed September 30 as the deadline which was later extended to October 31. —A Reporter

Diplomat loses cash

ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: A French diplomat on Friday lost cash and cell phone from his house located in F-7/4, police said.

Apparently a theft case, the incident took place at the residence of the third secretary of French embassy in Pakistan Mr Claude.

He informed the police that Rs20, 000 in cash and a mobile phone went missing from his bedroom. The police went to his house and got statement of the diplomat recorded. The police said that except the cash and mobile everything was found at its place. The police interrogated a guard of the diplomat while the house servant was on leave. — Staff Reporter

House looted

ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: Some robbers raided a house and looted cash, gold ornaments and valuables worth one million rupees here on Friday, police said.

The incident took place in the house of Mohammad Saad located in Baharia Town Phase V in the limits of Koral police station.

According to police some robbers entered the house and made the residents unconscious in a mysterious fashion using some spray.

Later on, they looted cash, gold ornaments, mobiles and other valuables worth Rs1million.

During their hours-long stay in the house they also prepared meal and took it with them as a breakfast before leaving the house at dawn, police added. — Staff Reporter

Blind murder case

TAXILA, Oct 21: A man was shot dead by unknown assailants at village Kohlia in limits of Hassanabdal police on Friday.

Taj Ahmed reported to police that his brother Sarfraz Ahmed went out and did not return home at night.

However, on next day a bullet-riddled body was spotted in the fields by some passersby who informed the local police. Later his body was shifted to tehsil headquarters hospital for autopsy. Hassanabdal police registered a case against unknown assailants and started investigation. — Correspondent

Death sentence

FATEHJANG Oct 21: Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Jahangir Mir awarded death sentence to two killers here on Friday.

Tahir Abdullah and Kafayt Ullah, residents of Taxila, had killed Mohammad Siddique and injured Abdul Majeed residents of Jhang on April 30, 2007 when they were harvesting wheat crop in the fields. The court also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 each. — Correspondent

Position holders get laptops

RAWALPINDI, Oct 21: Girl students who secured outstanding positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations were given laptops by the Punjab government in collaboration with the private sector here on Friday.

The laptops, which were provided by Engro Corporations, were handed over to the students at a ceremony attended by Chairman Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Raja Mohammad Anwer and others here.

The toppers included Mehwish Khalid (Chakwal), Najma (Bhakkar), Tahira Farzand (Sargodha), Samina Aman (Mianwali), Amina Asif and Laraib Arshad (Khushab).

Enrolled in the partner schools of the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), the girls secured more than 90 per cent marks in their exams. — Our Reporter
