UN peacekeeping
Islamabad, Oct 20: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday allowed 30 senior police officers to appear before the United Nations Selection Assistance Team (UNSAT) for induction in the UN peacekeeping missions.
IHC Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan accepted the prayer of the police officials and disposed of the petition.
Chaudhry Mohammad Ashraf Gujjar, counsel for the petitioners told the court that the interior ministry on April 28, 2011 issued new guidelines for selection of police officers in the UN peacekeeping missions.
According to the interior ministry guidelines, police officer who had served in UN Missions for more than two times, could not be considered for selection.
He alleged the new guidelines would deprive several police officers of the right to appear before the UNSAT which is expected to visit Pakistan for selection of 40 police officers for deployment in different peacekeeping missions. — A Reporter
