Mini-golf club at Murree

RAWALPINDI, Oct 16: Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) will develop a mini-golf club and other recreational spots at Murree to boost tourism activities.

PHA Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmed told Dawn on Wednesday that a tennis club and a gold club would be established at Murree and various consultant firms had been contacted for the designs of the two projects. He said the sports activities in the hilly resort would be boosted to attract and facilitate the tourists.The authority has taken over the public parks of Murree for proper maintenance and beautifying the overall landscape of the tourist resort. Earlier, the parks were looked after by Town Municipal Administration (TMA).

The PHA chief said that the new parks would be developed in Rawalpindi as well as in other towns of the division to provide recreational facilities to the residents. —Our Reporter

Armyman’s killers arrested

CHAKWAL, Oct 16: Three alleged killers of an armyman were arrested here, police sources said on Sunday.

Zahid Iqbal, Shahid Iqbal and Mohammad Khan had allegedly gunned down Mohammad Nawaz, a soldier of Pakistan Army besides seriously injuring his brother, father and uncle on Saturday.

After committing the crime the three killers had fled from the scene. Talagang police, however, nabbed them within 18 hours. — Correspondent

Supervisor suspended

RAWALPINDI, Oct 16: Executive District Officer (EDO) Municipal Services has suspended sanitary supervisor of Union Council-18 over failure to keep the area clean.

He also gave warning to four other supervisors and inspectors for failing to remove garbage from their respective areas.

District Officer, Solid Waste Management (SWM) Dr. Mazhar Azeem told Dawn that EDO Imtiaz Ahmed Malik visited different union councils including UC-18, 20, 34 and 45 (Satellite Town, Kartarpura, Arya Mohallah and Sadiqabad, respectively) during the routine checking to avoid spread of dengue virus and found heaps of garbage in these areas. —A Reporter

Hotel owner gunned down

CHAKWAL, Oct 16: The owner of a hotel was shot dead here, police said on Sunday.

Tariq Mehmood was present at his hotel near Shell filling station in Talagang city when some unknown assailants barged into his room and opened fire, killing him on the spot. Police registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent

Water shortage

RAWALPINDI Oct 16: The residents of Dhok Elahi Bux have been facing water shortage due to the faulty tube well for the last several days.

They complained that the tube well had not been working for the last several days but the concerned authority was not ready to get it repaired to solve water crisis in the area.

They demanded that the civic body should repair the faulty tube well on priority. The residents said if the tube well was not repaired within two days, they would stage protest against Wasa. — Online
