Bodies found in Nowshera

NOWSHERA, Sept 28: Bodies of two young unidentified men were recovered from the Marahti area here on Wednesday. The Akora Khattak police station was informed by some locals that bodies of two young men aged between 30 and 35 years were lying at Marahti area. The police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

Police said that the bodies which were tied to each other with a rope were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Nowshera for autopsy. Later, Akora police station buried them as there was no claimant. —Correspondent

Two killed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Sept 28: Two people were killed in the limits of Peshtakhara police station here on Wednesday. The SHO concerned said that the deceased were identified as Suhbat Khan and Sajid Mehmood.

He said that a group of armed men had killed Syed Kamal Shah, former president of People’s Unity (workers union in PIA) a few months ago and now his brothers had taken the revenge by killing the two men.

The actual accused, he said, had shifted from the village after killing Syed Kamal Shah but those killed on Wednesday were blamed for abetment in the case. Both the people were killed at different places.

A case against unidentified accused was registered but no arrests have been made. —Bureau Report

Protests in Mansehra

MANSEHRA, Sept 28: The people and students of Oghi held separate rallies to protest against encroachments on roads and shortage of teachers in the only government degree college in the area.

A large number of students of Government Degree College Oghi held the protest demonstration and blocked Oghi-Mansehra road for about half an hour.

Speaking on the occasion the student leaders said that because of shortage of teachers the studies of students, particularly of the science group, was badly affected.

They said if vacant posts were not filled before Oct 2, they would launch a series of the protests and rallies.

In another protest, a large number of people also held a rally against encroachments by the shopkeepers at the Bazrgay and other roads in the city. —Correspondent

Young man found dead

KOHAT, Sept 28: Bullet riddled body of a young man was found in the fields in Nusrat Khel area on Hangu road here on Wednesday.

Police said that the body of 20-year-old Busharaf was found in the fields by pedestrians. It was handed over to his uncle Gul Mohammad after autopsy for burial. The police also took into possession shells of 30 bore pistol from the scene and launched investigations.

Meanwhile, excise and taxation officials seized hashish and arrested a tribal smuggler on Peshawar bypass on Wednesday.

A team of excise and taxation officials stopped a coach on a tip-off and upon search found 27kg fine quality hashish hidden in the secret cavities of the vehicle. Driver Zahirullah was arrested. —Correspondent

Contractors warned

TIMERGARA, Sept 28: Director general flood rehabilitation project Engineer Naeem Khan has warned the contractors of strict actions if they were found using poor quality material in rehabilitation projects in Lower Dir, Upper Dir and Swat districts.

He was talking to journalists here on Wednesday after examining rehabilitation projects in different parts of Lower Dir and Upper Dir. The DG directed the contractors to complete the ongoing projects within the stipulated time so that flood victim could be provided relief. —Correspondent

Teachers threaten protest

KOHAT, Sept 28: The local teachers’ associations have threatened to boycott duty over the pressure being exerted by the assistant election commissioner, Hangu for completion of electoral lists before Sept 30.

In a statement issued here by provincial vice-president of Malgari Ustazan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shah Mehmood Khan, president of local teachers association Afzal Khan, secretary welfare Asamuddin, press secretary of Wahdat Teachers Association Yousuf Darwesh and others, they said that the assistant election commissioner, Raheem Kareem, was misbehaving with the teachers and forcing them to complete the lists in the remote and no go areas by putting their lives in danger.

They demanded of the chief election commissioner to immediately transfer the official and replace him with an honest officer. —Correspondent

Dilapidated road

KARAK, Sept 28: The elders of Tehsil Banda Daud Shah have demanded that the Banda-Karak road should be reconstructed immediately to resolve the difficulties being faced by the people.

The demand was made by former nazims of union councils including Atiqur Rehman, Master Zardad, Haji Raza Abbas and others while speaking at a ceremony held to launch a social organisation at Terri here on Wednesday.

They said that the main road between the district headquarters and Banda Daud Shah was in dilapidated condition. They complained that the huge amount of oil and gas royalty was being utilised by the provincial minister for prisons Mian Nisar Gul and MNA Mufti Ajmal at their native towns and other areas while the basic problems of the oil and gas producing Tehsil were still unresolved. — Correspondent

Delay in promotion

PESHAWAR, Sept 28: All Pakistan Nadra Employees Union has demanded one-step promotion for the employees.

The provincial president of the Nadra Employees Union, Mohammad Saleem Sherpao, while speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday said that some of the workers were promoted after completion of their service.

He said that out of 265 employees only 13 were promoted, adding that they had no chance of further promotion till their retirement because of the faulty system. He said that many of the workers had retired in the same grade in which they had been hired. Some other office-bearers of the union also spoke on the occasion and demanded promotion for all the workers. —Bureau Report

House looted

PESHAWAR, Sept 28: Armed men looted a house at Javaid Town in Gulbahar area and took away 60 tola gold jewellery and other valuables here on Wednesday, police said.An official of Gulbahar police station quoting the complainant, Asfandyar Khan, said that a group of armed men entered his house by breaking the lock, held the family at gunpoint and took away jewellery, Rs180,000 cash and some other valuables.

The official said that a case had been registered and efforts were being made to arrest the culprits. —Bureau Report
