GHQ attack mastermind

RAWALPINDI, Sept 28: The mastermind of General Headquarters (GHQ) attack in the year 2009, who was last month sentenced to death by a military court, has been shifted to Central Jail Faisalabad, it has been learnt.

Earlier, armyman Aqeel alias Dr Usman had been handed over to the Adiala jail authorities who shifted him to the high security barrack of the Faisalabad jail amid tight security on Wednesday. Sources said security problem was the reason for shifting of the convict.

A group of militants armed with automatic weapons, grenades and rocket launchers attacked the GHQ on October 10, 2009, killing six army personnel. Nine of the militants were also killed while Aqeel was arrested in wounded condition.

He along with seven other persons, including armed forces personnel, was tried in the military court, which awarded him capital punishment. — Staff Reporter

Terror suspect remanded

RAWALPINDI, Sept 28: A suspected terrorist, Sardar Ali Khan Khattak, Naib Qasid in finance ministry, was remanded in three-day physical custody of Secretariat police by An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday.

The Secretariat Police produced the suspected terrorist before Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Syed Pervaiz Ali Shah seeking physical remand of the accused for further investigation.

Secretariat police claimed to have arrested Sardar Ali Khan Khattak from the federal capital for his alleged relations with terrorists and registered a case against him on September 26.

The investigation officer informed the court that the Islamabad police and the security agencies arrested four suspected terrorists associated with a terrorist outfit based in Mohmand Agency, from a house in Sector G-6, which is inside the high-security Red Zone during Ramazan in August. A suicide jacket was recovered from them as the terrorists were waiting for the bomber.— A Reporter

Training concludes

ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: A three-day training course on trade policy formulation and competitiveness analysis ended here on Wednesday at Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development.

The Institute was given the responsibility of providing policy training and research to the ministries and government agencies. Policy makers and researchers from various federal government ministries and departments participated in the training course which was held under the Trade Related Technical Assistance (TRTA II) programme funded by the European Union and implemented by UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).— Our Reporter

NCHD employees plea

ISLAMABAD, Sept 28:  Employees and the management of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) have called upon the federal government to make NCHD functional to save 16,000 workers all over the country from facing an economic disaster in the form of losing their jobs.

Despite the categorical announcement made by the Implementation Commission on the 18th Amendment that not even a single employee would be removed from job, the future of 16,000 employees of NCHD was undecided and they had not been paid salaries for the last three months, says a statement issued by NCHD staff and management here on Wednesday.

In lieu of the 18th constitutional amendment, the federal government discontinued the provision of funds for the human development interventions. NCHD, being the autonomous body working under the cabinet division, is being considered a devolved subject but no provincial government adopted it. — Our Reporter

Man killed over a cock

TAXILA, Sept 28: A man was gunned down over a petty dispute in village Massian in limits of Wah Cantonment police station.

Mohammad Shafqat reported to police that his son Asad Mehmood had a row with Khan Mohammad over purchase of a cock as the latter demanded more money than settled between the two, earlier. The same was declined by the former. On which the alleged murderer took out his 12-bore gun and shot his son dead and fled away from the scene. Police have registered a case against the accused and started investigation.— Correspondent

Private hostels to be searched

TAXILA, Sept 28: Wah Cantonment police would launch a massive search operation against the private boys hostels mushroomed along GT road in various parts of the city.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, sub divisional police officer DSP Raja Taifoor Akhter said police will launch major swoop against the hostels illegally operating in the area. He said that according to the police surveillance and monitoring wing reports, these private boys’ hostels were becoming hub of the illegal activities and some anti social elements were also residing in these hostels.

He said that according to these reports these residents of the hostels were involved in street crimes especially purse-snatching from the female pedestrians in Lala Rukh, Lalazar and different commercial and residence areas of the city. — Correspondent
