Man shoots dead son, self

MANSEHRA, Sept 27: A man committed suicide after killing his son over a minor domestic issue in Shinkiary on Tuesday, police said.

The incident happened in Tambah area where Raja Sabir shot dead his son Raja Zakir after exchange of hot words with him. Mr Sabir, who was settled in Saudi Arabia for job for last many years, also shot himself dead a few seconds after killing his son. Family sources said that a minor demotic issue was the reason behind the killing of son. Shinkiary police after lodging FIR started investigation.—Correspondent

Woman commits suicide

PESHAWAR, Sept 27: A woman, Mehr Taja, 21, allegedly committed suicide inside a room of her residence at Tehkal village here on Tuesday, police said.

An official of the Tehkal police, quoting statement of Sanober Khan, said his daughter had shot herself with an automatic gun while he was sitting in his shop located beside the house. Her father said he heard the fire shot but could not understand as to what happened but a family member immediately called him inside the building. “As I went inside the room my daughter was lying in a pool of blood,” he stated and added she was rushed to the hospital but could not survive.—Bureau Report

Ex-MPA dies of burn injuries

KOHAT, Sept 27: Former MPA Shad Mohammad Khan died of burn injuries when a power generator accidentally caught fire at his house in Lachi town here on Tuesday.

The former lawmaker was trying to turn on a power generator when it caught fire. He suffered severe burn injuries and died after a while. He was elected as MPA from PF-39, Kohat, in 1993 on the ticket of PML-N and later joined the forward bloc. He was made minister for planning and development. He also remained deputy speaker of the assembly. In 2002, he got PPP-S ticket and won the seat. After losing to Dr Iqbal Din Fana in 2008, he quit active politics.—Correspondent

Man gunned down

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sept 27: A man was killed over an old enmity in the suburbs of Kulachi tehsil here on Tuesday, police said.

The victim, Qayyum, son of Shah Alam, resident of Wanda Bhatiara, was working in his fields when at least 10 attackers armed with sophisticated weapons, including rocket launchers, opened fire on him. He died instantly. Police said the assailants escaped from the area after the incident. The motive behind the killing was stated to be an old enmity. The Kulachi police registered a case.—Correspondent

Student killed in firing

MINGORA, Sept 27: One student was killed and three others were wounded in exchange of fire between two students’ organisations in Jehan Zeb College, Saidu Sharif on Tuesday.

Police said a scuffle between students of Pakhtun Students Federation and Insaf students Federation turned violent. They added Abid and Nasir of ISF opened fire killing Musa Khan on the spot, and injuring three others, including Hashim Khan, Zaffar Ali and Fawad. The body and injured were rushed DHQ hospital Saidu Sharif where condition of injured Hasham Khan was sated to be serious. Police said accused Abid was arrested and raids were being conducted to arrest the others. —Correspondent

Management cadre abolished

PESHAWAR, Sept 27: Schools Officers Association (SOA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday hailed the rolling back of the management cadre in elementary and secondary education (E&SE) department.

According to a press release issued here president of SOA Haji Nisar Mohammad said the criteria set for recruitment in the management cadre was not perfect that led to the failure of the newly introduced system.

He demanded of the government to immediately implement the four-tier formula for the promotion of educationists.

Hakeemullah Khan, former additional director E&SE lauded the provincial government for abolishing the management cadre, saying the government had taken a good decision on the right time.—Bureau Report

PPP workers’ grievances

PESHAWAR, Sept 27: The activists of People’s Youth Organisation (PYO) will stage a protest on the arrival of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at Peshawar High Court today (Wednesday) to air workers’ grievances.

Speaking at a pres conference at Peshawar press club on Tuesday PYO Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Gohar Ali Inqilabi announced launching an organised campaign for the workers’ rights. Flanked by other office-bearers, Mr Inqilabi said the campaign would be launched from the protest demonstration on the occasion of the PM’s Peshawar visit.

He said protests would be held at all the divisional headquarters in the province on Oct 12.—Bureau Report

Kohat bar elections

KOHAT, Sept 27: Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi advocate has been elected unopposed as president of the district bar association for year 2011.

The member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Akhtar Nawaz advocate issued a notification about the elected members of the bar. The other two candidates withdrew their nominations in favour of Mr Qureshi.

The other members of the bar are Sanobar Kahttak vice-president, Sanmiullah secretary general, Aamir finance secretary and Imtiaz as information secretary. The elections for the seat of joint secretary would be held between Jabir Hussain and Shah Haroon on October 1.—Correspondent

Lowari tunnel project

PESHAWAR, Sept 27: ANP, Chitral chapter, has expressed concern over the federal government’s failure to allocate sufficient funds for early completion of the Lowari tunnel to end the problems being faced by the people.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar press club on Tuesday leader of the ANP Syed Abid Hussain said the people of Chitral were faced with multiple problems due to the poor communication system and needed immediate attention on part of the government. He said federal government had promised to complete the project within stipulated period but it did not seem possible because of the insufficient allocation of funds in the annual federal budget.—Bureau Report

Elected unopposed

PESHAWAR, Sept 27: Mohammad Naeem Butt has been elected as central chairman of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) unopposed. He was also elected unopposed chairman of the association in the past.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Naeem Butt expressed gratitude to executive body and other members from all four federating units for reposing confidence in him. He expressed his resolve to continue efforts for the betterment of the flour mills.—Bureau Report
