Man forced to dance naked

RAWALPINDI, Sept 25: A young man was forcibly taken to a private hostel by three persons who tortured him, shaved his head, eye brows and later stripped off his clothes and was forced to dance in a street of Saleem Nagar in the limits of Wah Saddar police station, the sources said on Sunday.

Mansoor Ahmed, 30, victim of the brutal torture alleged in his complaint that he was forcibly abducted by Mohammad Bilal and two other persons and was taken to a private hostel.

He said the kidnappers tortured him, shaved off his head and eye brows and then stripped off his clothes. Later, they forced him to dance in the street and started making his video film. The victim said in his FIR registered with the police that they also snatched Rs2,000 and cell phone from him before freeing him.

The investigating officer said the motive behind torturing the young man was not known.— Staff Reporter

Anti-mosquito kits

ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: In its nationwide drive against dengue to provide 50,000 mosquito nets to the people, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) on Sunday distributed 600 anti-mosquito kits among the slum dwellers of the federal capital.

These kits include medicated nets that acted as repellents providing protection to the people from the dengue-carrying mosquitoes. PRCS as a part of the campaign selected the slum areas for distribution of these kits as these were the most vulnerable areas.

In the next phase these kits would be distribution in Tarnol and subsequently in other areas of the District Islamabad that were most vulnerable and exposed to dengue.— A Reporter

PML-Q leader honoured

ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain was honored with one of the highest awards of Cambodia at an investiture held at Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia.

The Award, Grand Order of the Kingdom of Cambodia, was awarded for his services to promoting Asian causes and bringing Asian people closer together. The award was presented to him by the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen. Present on the occasion were former Speaker of the Philippines and former Vice President of Indonesia who also received similar awards. — Staff Reporter

Loadshedding

TAXILA, Sept 25: After a brief respite, prolonged and unscheduled power outage again hit the rural areas of the city as consumers were suffering 9 to 10 hours load-shedding daily.

A large number of consumers connected to Museum feeder told Dawn that they were braving 9 to 10 hours of load-shedding.

They said that earlier they had to face one hour load-shedding after every three hours but the duration of the same had been increased to two hours after every three hours. They also complained that they were also facing an acute shortage of water while fluctuation in the voltage of electricity destroyed most of their electronic gadgets.

Hours of break down was observed, adding to the miseries of people particularly farmers who were already finding it hard to cope with the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions. The masses of the area appealed the authorities to announce a proper schedule of the load-shedding.— Correspondent

Killing condemned

TAXILA, Sept 25: A protest demonstration was held here on Sunday to condemn the brutal killing of 26 pilgrims in Mastung a few days back.

Led by religious leaders, scores of protesters gathered at the Taxila-Hattar Road and suspended traffic on the road.

They were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against prevailing lawlessness and the elements which were out to trigger sectarianism in the country. The participants were shouting slogans against the government, US and Israel and demanded stern action against the culprits.

Addressing the protesters, Shia Ulema Council leaders Touseef Naqvi, Dr Tafseer Hussain and others said that foreign hand was responsible for target killing of the people belonging to Shia community in Balochistan. They expressed serious concern over the silence of religious and political parties over the incident and warned that the Shia community would chalk out a separate political strategy in the next election. —Correspondent

Man killed on road

CHAKWAL, Sept 25: A young man was killed in a road accident while his friend sustained serious injuries, police said on Sunday.

According to details, Zahid and his friend Umar Farooq were going to Dab village on a motorbike when the bike rammed into a truck at Jehlum Road.

Zahid died at the spot while Umar Farooq got critically injured and was rushed to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital.

Police registered a case against the unknown truck driver who managed to escape after the accident. — Correspondent
