KARACHI, Sept 24: A former station house officer was remanded in police custody for two days in a robbery case by a judicial magistrate on Saturday.

Inspector Amir Hayat Khan was arrested on Sept 23 for robbing a real estate dealer of Rs180,000 a few days ago in North Karachi.

The police officer, who is a brother of a member of the Sindh Bar Council, was produced before the court of a judicial magistrate (central) on Saturday and the investigation officer sought his physical remand.

However, a group of lawyers rushed to the court and strongly opposed the police request for remand, contending that the suspect was not nominated in the FIR.

The magistrate, however, handed over the inspector to police on physical remand till Sept 26 and directed the IO to produce him in court on the next hearing.

According to the prosecution, the suspect, who is a former SHO of New Karachi Industrial Area, had allegedly looted money from Malik Abdul Rasheed near the Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi on Sept 19 and the victim also sustained injuries during the commissioning of the offence.

A case (FIR No.341/11) was registered under Sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of the victim’s brother at the Khawaja Ajmar Nagri police station.
