Tesco officials kidnapped

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sept 20: Unknown armed men on Tuesday kidnapped three Tesco officials after they were returning from Pir Tangi area to Jandola, headquarters of FR Tank, after completing their work.

The FR Tank political administrator, Humayun Khan, soon after the incident, convened a tribal jirga of Bhittani elders to recover the missing Tesco officials.

The kidnapped officials included line superintendent Musa Khan, assistant lineman Jahanzeb and store keeper Abdus Samad. They went to the Ping area as part of construction survey. They were returning to Jandola when the armed kidnappers intercepted them. No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. —Correspondent

School without science teacher

KOHAT, Sept 20: Due to absence of science teacher and suspension of work on the boundary wall students of government girls higher secondary school in Lachi tehsil are facing various problems.

The teachers have written a letter to the provincial Education Minister Sardar Babak, MPA Dr Iqbal Din Fana and the executive district officer, health to pay a visit to the school and see for themselves the problems the female students were facing due to absence of boundary wall. The old wall was demolished in March last.

Meanwhile, the students are also suffering due to delay in the appointment/transfer of science teacher in the school.

The teachers demanded that the work on the wall should be restarted and a lady science teacher should be immediately appointed. —Correspondent

NAB probes funds misuse

MANSEHRA, Sept 20: The National Accountability Bureau on Tuesday started probe into misappropriation of funds in the district zakat committee and communication and works department in Kohistan on Tuesday.

The assistant directors of NAB Mohammad Adnan and Mohammad Mudassar started the probe into misappropriation of funds in the construction of Peshal road, Kihal school and Dobair water supply schemes.

The team also started probe into misappropriation of funds of the district zakat committee.

Reliable sources in the district administration said the NAB had initiated the probe on the written complaints by local people who alleged that an amount of Rs30 million, meant for the construction of Peshal road, Kihal school and Dobair water supply schemes was eaten up by corrupt mafia without executing the schemes. —Correspondent

Education for women

KOHAT, Sept 20: Revenue Minister Engr Syed Qalb-i-Hassan has stressed the need for providing women with purposeful and quality education to achieve prosperity and development of the nation.

The minister said the educated and employed women could play a very positive role in the society by managing the budget and understanding the social issues.

The minister was speaking after awarding two years scholarships to 40 students under the “Stori da Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” programme in the auditorium of the Board and Intermediate and Secondary Education, Kohat on Tuesday. He said the provincial government was paying special attention to the education sector, adding, Rs600 million had been spent in this regard in Kohat district in past more than three years. —Correspondent

Kisan Party to hold rally

PESHAWAR, Sept 20: The Pakistan Mazdoor Kisan Party will hold a protest rally in Charsadda on September 26 (Monday) to ‘highlight highhandedness of the government agencies with the workers and leaders of the party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’.

A press release issued on Tuesday said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was using police and other law-enforcement agencies to harass the workers and leaders of the party. Besides the party workers were being dragged to the police stations for no fault of theirs.

The party said the protest rally would also send a strong message to the international human rights organisations and the world community to take notice of the inhuman treatment being meted out to the party workers and leaders.

Targeted killings

BUNER, Sept 20: PML-Q, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, President Eng Amir Muqam has said that MQM, PPP and ANP are responsible for the targeted killings in Karachi.

Speaking at a public meeting here on Tuesday the former federal minister said it was need of the hour that Supreme Court should force the government to unveil the accused involved in the bloodshed of innocent people. He said no body could expect any good from the ruling parties as they used to trade allegations and then become friends who were unable to take action against the known target killers. He said only solution to the problems was military operation. —Bureau Report
