KARACHI: Pakistan has abundance of talent which needs to be groomed through extensive coaching and competitions.
“My sibling Jalil and I have worked rigorously while imparting coaching to selected juniors’ during the short 10-day coaching clinic organised by the Sindh Tennis Association (STA) on the directives of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) at the Modern Club on Sunday,” Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan said while addressing participants at a simple closing ceremony.
The enthusiasm of players was so much that a number of them managed to reach the venue by overcoming rain and storm water that was accumulated in front of the venue.
This was Aqeel’s first official short stint as coach and he offered to repay the debt when needed provided the PTF treats him at par with foreign coaches in terms of remuneration.
Speaking on the occasion veteran tennis official Saeed Hai, applauded Aqeel and added that humility and fighting spirit are the hallmark of his domination on the domestic circuit for over a decade.
“He has steered the country to success by winning some crucial Davis Cup matches in his career,” said Hai.
He advised the country’s ace player to compile a report of every participant which should contain their positive and negative aspects.
Stressing on the importance of strategy, Hai, the country’s senior most tennis official, said it play pivotal role in the game.
Earlier, secretary of the STA, Khalid Rehmani, gave a resume of the camp.
Hai, who graced the occasion, later distributed the certificates among the participants.
Those who attended the camp were Syed Zuhair Raza, Talha Zubair, Adil Kohari, Omer Shahid, Neha Khan, Abdul Rehman, Maheen Dada, Farhan Mustafa, Sikander Hayat, Marib Malik, Hassan Siddiqui, Bilal Imran, Shazil Malik and Hassan Farooq.
