Man killed in accident

ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: A motorcyclist was killed while the pillion rider was badly injured as their motorcycle crashed into a roadside wall in the Secretariat police area on Sunday, police said.

Imran Khan, 24, was going home along with his friend Sanaullah on his motorcycle when he was crossing the road near the Convention Center, his motorbike skidded off the road and crashed into the roadside wall. Resultantly, both the bike riders received serious injuries.

They were removed to the Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH) where Imran Khan was pronounced dead while his friend Sanaullah was stated to be in a stable condition. The deceased was the only brother of his five sisters and belonged to Bannu. — Staff Reporter

Robberies in Gujar Khan

GUJAR KHAN, Sept 11: Two houses were looted in the jurisdiction of Jatli and Gujar Khan police stations during last 24 hours.

Imtiaz Hussain, resident of Mohra Hayat reported to the police that his family went to a nearby village by locking the house on Sunday at about 11.30am and on their return at 12.30pm they found the house was burgled as the thieves had stolen gold ornaments worth Rs2.3 million and cash amounting to Rs372,000. In the other incident, Khalid Hussain, resident of Missa Kaswal reported to the police that the burglars broke into his house during Saturday night and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs1.5 million, cash Rs100,000  and other valuables.— Correspondent

Protest camp

RAWALPINDI, Sept 11: Like other parts of the country, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Rawalpindi Chapter on Sunday established a protest camp against United States interference in the Muslim countries and its invasion in Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11.

More than 100 JI workers and supporters gathered at the protest camp established in front of the General Post Office (GPO) Rawalpindi Saddar and remained there from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The organisers installed a big screen at the camp to show the video clippings of the drone attacks in the tribal areas of Pakistan and devastation of air attacks in Afghanistan and Iraq. JI Rawalpindi City Amir Rizwan Ahmed, Secretary Sheikh Masood Ahmed and former MPA Waqas Khan were prominent among the participants of the camp. —A Reporter

Two filling stations fined

TAXILA, Sept 11: A weight and measurement team during a surprise check fined the owners of two filling stations for selling less quantity of fuel despite charging full price.

The weight and measurement team led by Assistant Controller Muhammad Anwar during surprise check of various filling stations at GT Road found at a filling station that 10 milliliter less quantity of diesel on every liter was being sold. The team also found that two dispensers were tampered.

The Assistant Controller (W&M) charge sheeted filling station manager Muhammad Nauman and dispatched his case to the civil judge.

While at another filling station, the team also detected the same malpractice at three dispensers. Two units of the filling station were selling less quantity of petrol while one was selling less quantity of diesel. The team sealed these units and challaned the contractor of the station and also sent his case to local court of law.— Correspondent

Five outlaws arrested

ATTOCK, Sept 11:  The city police arrested five outlaws from different areas on Saturday.

The sources said a police team led by SHO city police station Inspector Israr Satti conducted a surprise raid at a net cafe on Imambarah Road and arrested three persons who were watching obscene movies. The police seized six computers, eight monitors, 20 porno CDs and other computer accessories. However, the owner of the net cafe escaped from the scene.  Meanwhile, the police arrested two alleged gamblers in a surprise raid at a plaza as they were betting on a cricket match.

Police seized a TV, a decoder, mobile phones and Rs9,600 stake money from their possession. The police registered separate cases against all the accused persons. — Correspondent

New publications

CHAKWAL, Sept 11: A book on noted saint and poet Syed Asadur Raham Qudsi, written by a lecturer of Government College Chakwal, has been launched here.

The book authored by Arshad Mehmood offers a wide range of knowledge about the life and work of Qudsi. The Bhopal origin Qudsi (1897-1977) penned down almost two dozen prose books apart from three poetic collections.

The 250-page Armaghan-i-Qudsi carries the life sketch, introduction of prose work as well as detailed critical appreciation of Qudsi’s mystical poetry. Apart from other salient features, some historical snaps and the opinion of Allama Mohammad Iqbal about Rubaiyat-i-Qudsi have been highlighted in the book.

Another book, Tand Tand Tarakla, has been published on the poetry of Dr Azam Samore, which is being considered here as a ‘precious asset’ of Punjabi language.

Dr Samore’s poetry is rich in metaphors and similes. They contain the cultural essence of Punjab, especially that of Chakwal district. Dr Samore’s poetry offers optimism, defiance and courage.— Correspondent

Fumigation ordered

ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: The capital police on Saturday ordered fumigation of all their installations as prevention against spread of dengue fever among policemen, police said.

During a meeting held here on Saturday the high-ups ordered steps after the outbreak of disease in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The heads of installations of operations security and traffic wings were asked to fumigate buildings and their surroundings. — Staff Reporter
