Two killed in Mardan

MARDAN, Sept 11: Two persons were killed in separate incidents of violence in Mardan, police said on Sunday.

The first incident took place in the limits of Garhi Kapoora police station, in which three gunmen identified as Waqar, Waheed and Taj Mohammad killed Fazal-i-Mabood, resident of Mohib Banda, over an old enmity.

Meanwhile, unidentified assailants brutally murdered Mohammad Afraz, 22, in the jurisdiction of Par Hoti police station.—APP

Land dispute claims life

NOWSHERA, Sept 11: A man was killed over a land dispute in the Speen Khak area of Pabbi on Sunday.

The victim, Saleem Ahmad Shah, was going to the disputed land when he was attacked by his rivals. He died on the spot.

Khalil Ahmad, brother of the victim, lodged FIR in the Pabbi police station and nominated Mohammad Hayat, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Munir, Gul Shad, Umer Hayat and Zamin Shah in the case.

Meanwhile, a man who had allegedly killed his mother some time ago committed suicide in the Pabbi area on the night between Saturday and Sunday.

The police said the victim, Jamal Hussain, son of Nabi Gul, resident of Choki Drabb, Pabbi, committed suicide, as he was having psychological problems after he allegedly killed his mother. The police registered case and started investigation.—Correspondent

Man commits suicide

SWABI, Sept 11: A jobless man committed suicide here on Sunday.Police said Zulqarnain Khan, 22, shot himself dead at his house in Turlandi area in the limits of Kalu Khan police station.

Parents of the deceased told the police Zulqarnain shot himself dead in his computer room because he was jobless.

Meanwhile, in another incident in the same area, Najat Khan shot dead his brother-in-law Mir Aman over suspicion that he had illicit relations with his (Nejat’s) wife.—Correspondent

Intermediate classes

KARAK, Sept 11: Residents of Karak city have demanded intermediate restart of intermediate classes in the government girls’ high school in the city’s old bazaar.

They made the demand at a press conference here on Sunday. The residents said classes could not even be restarted despite construction of classrooms for the purpose.

They said the status of the school as higher secondary school was abolished after the start of intermediate classes in the girls’ degree college Karak Township. They said the female students of Karak city faced hardships to go to the college in the Karak Township due to non-availability and high fares of transport.

They demanded of the provincial Minister for Education Sardar Hussain Babak to restart the classes so that the female students could continue their education.—Correspondent

Fatal road accident

MANSEHRA, Sept 11: A man was killed when two vehicles collided head-on in Lassain Nawab area on Sunday, police said.

A passenger wagon, on its way to Lassain Nawab from Mansehra, collided with an upcoming pick-up. As a result a man identified as Mohammad Azam sustained critical injuries. He died on way to hospital.

Bridge washed away

PESHAWAR, Sept 11: A makeshift bridge in Damori area of Shangla district was washed away during recent rains, disrupting the only link of the area with other parts of the district.

During a visit to the area on Sunday, PPP leader and former MPA Afsarul Mulk said the damaged bridge had been temporarily restored to resolve difficulties of the people, but the government did not rebuild the bridge, which had been destroyed in last year’s floods. He criticised the provincial government for ignoring the problems of the people.

He demanded of the government and the PPP leadership to pay attention to the people’s plight and immediately reconstruct the bridge to solve their problems.—Bureau Report

Remunerations increased

PESHAWAR, Sept 11: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has increased the remunerations of the field workers to enable them to work with devotion towards eradicating the poliomyelitis.

The step has been taken to improve the performance of the field staff, said Dr Jan Baz Afridi, Deputy Director of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI). He said all the executive district officers of health had been issued directives in this connection.

Now, the workforce involved in the immunisation campaign would receive almost 100 per cent raise from September 18, he said, adding, the World Health Organisation and Global Polio Eradication Partnership would provide the funds benefiting more than 1,000 people, including vaccinators, supervisors and drivers.

Besides, the allocation for petrol charges has also been increased to enable the workers to cover their areas without any difficulty, he said.—Bureau Report

Man shot dead

CHARSADDA, Sept 11: A man was killed and his brother and mother were injured when their uncle allegedly opened fire on them over a loan dispute in the Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district on Sunday.

The victim, Tayyab Jan, demanded of his uncle Mohammad Jan to pay him back a loan of Rs300, which infuriated the latter.

The accused opened indiscriminate fire on Tayyab, killing him on the spot. Tayyab’s brother Sahir Jan and mother were also injured and were shifted to hospital.

The police registered a case on the report of the victim’s brother Asif Jan against Mohammad Jan and started investigation.—Correspondent

Revenue dept restructuring

PESHAWAR, Sept 11: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Sunday approved restructuring and reforms in the revenue and state department.

The decision was taken to create better working atmosphere and service delivery in the light of the recommendations of the cabinet members.

A committee was also constituted under the supervision of additional chief secretary to oversee the reforms process.—APP
