KARACHI, Sept 8: A 22-year-old medical student kidnapped a couple of days ago for a ransom of Rs7 million in Steel Town was recovered on Thursday in a raid in Memon Goth jointly carried out by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) of the city police and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), a CPLC statement said.

“Waqas was kidnapped along with his father Abdul Jabbar from Link Road near Steel Town on September 3,” the statement added.

“The father was released within hours and then kidnappers contacted the family for a ransom of Rs7 million, which was negotiated.”

It was stated in the statement that the police and the AVCC in a joint operation raided a place in a Memon Goth area that led to the “safe recovery” of the victim.

The police also arrested two suspects and recovered a TT pistol during the raid, according to the statement.

The suspects had been identified as Mandost and Mureed, the statement added.

Acting on a tip-off, CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy and SP of AVCC Saqib Sultan headed the raiding party and after, what was described as, a “hectic search” located the kidnappers' hideout, the statement added.

Search for other suspects was still continuing, it was added.
