KARACHI, Sept 7: The administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts in Karachi on Wednesday remanded two suspects in police custody in as many cases till Sept 14.

Initially, the police claimed to have arrested the two suspects — Kamran Madhuri and Sohail Commando — on Aug 22 in the police bus attack case. However, the police produced the suspects in court only after the apex court took notice of their non-production. However, contrary to the initial claim of the police, the suspects not were produced in court for remand in the bus attack case.

Both the suspects were brought to the Sindh High Court in ambulances amid tight security. The police produced them before the administrative judge on stretchers and sought their remand.

The court remanded the suspects in police custody for one week and directed the investigation officer of the case to provide them required medical treatment.

According to the police, the suspects sustained bullet wounds in an exchange of gunfire with police. A prosecutor said that both the suspects were currently under treatment at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The suspects along with their absconding and confined accomplices have been booked for allegedly attacking the house of Ashiq Chandio of the Sindh Dost Party on Aug 19 within the remit of the Zaman Town police station and kidnapping his nephew Shahzad and killing two others.

The CID police arrested the suspect in May this year. The suspect had informed the court that he was subjected to torture in police custody and claimed that he was out of country when these murders were taken place. The court had directed two police officers — DIG Majeed Dasti and DIG Sultan Khawaja — to investigate the matter and submit their reports.

The special public prosecutor said that the DIGs submitted the reports on Wednesday and the court would take up the matter on Sept 15.
