Two women shot dead

SWABI, Sept 4: Two women were killed in an honour-related incident at Tarakai village here on Monday.

Police quoted Fazal Diyan, father of the alleged killer, Faizan Ahmad, as saying that his son suspected his aunt and a female relative of having illicit relations with some men of the village. He went to the house of his aunt early on Monday and shot her and her relative dead, the police said.

The victims were identified as Zarmeenul Bibi and Kulsoom Bibi. The Kalu Khan police station registered the FIR and started raids for the arrest of the accused.—Correspondent

Over 70 POs held

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sept 4: The police arrested over 70 proclaimed offenders and recovered weapons and narcotics from their possession during a month-long drive in the district, according to a police handout issued here on Sunday.

DPO Sohail Khalid had issued directives to the police to launch a crackdown against anti-social elements in the district.

The arrested criminals were wanted to the police in various cases ranging from murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking and terrorism related activities.

The seized arms included four Kalashnikovs, 11 rifles, 30 guns of different bore, 49 pistols, one mortar shell as well as 1,363 live cartridges of different bore. The police also recovered 9.814kg hashish, 30 gram opium, 417 gram heroin, over 12kg bhung and nine bottles of liquor during the drive.—Correspondent

Karachi situation

SWABI, Sept 4: Jamaat Islami has said despite tall claims of the government the situation in Karachi has not improved where innocent people continue to be killed.

Addressing an Eid Milan Party here on Sunday JI provincial naib amir Mushtaq Ahmad Khan claimed since first of August 1,440 innocent people had been killed in the city.

He said due to violence a number of families, especially those of Pakhtuns, had been forced to move out of Karachi.

He held the government responsible for the disturbed scenario, claiming, a single volatile day in Karachi caused Rs30 billion loss to the country’s economy.

JI district amir Saeed Zada and other leaders also spoke on the occasion. It was announced that the JI central amir Munawar Hasan and other central leaders would visit the district on Sept 25.—Correspondent

Power outages

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Sept 4: People have complained that despite tall claims Pesco authorities have failed to reduce power outages in the Dera city.

They said the residents were fed up with excessive loadshedding in Basti Ustrana Janubi, Model Town, Gulshan Hameed Colony, Dewala and other parts of the city. Similarly, excessive loadshedding was carried out in the suburban areas and adjacent villages, they said.

A resident, Haji Ramazan, complained that most of the time the power remained off which adversely affected the daily routine of the people. He said that the unscheduled power outages had also disturbed work in the government offices and adversely affected the students.

When contacted, Pesco officials said the power suspensions were planned by the high-ups.—Correspondent

Bike stolen

PESHAWAR, Sept 4: Auto thieves lifted a motorbike in Yousaf Abad area in the limit of Pahari Pura police station.

Zakirullah of the Tambal Pura area had come to the Yousaf Abad area to meet his friends and parked motorbike outside his friends’ house. He said that when he came out he saw his motorbike missing.

He said he repeatedly visited the Pahari Pura police station to register FIR but the SHO refused and even warned him against visiting the police station again.—Bureau Report

Rain in Hazara

MANSEHRA, Sept 4: The upper parts of Hazara received heavy rain on Sunday causing blockade of many roads in the region.

The heavy rain which started in the afternoon continued till evening intermittently. Many link roads were also blocked in Kaghan, Siren, Konsh and Allai valleys and Battagram.

Because of blockade of the sewerage lines the rainwater entered the houses and shops in different areas of the city.—Correspondent

House collapse injures women

KOHAT, Sept 4: At least 10 women were injured, two of them seriously, when a house collapsed during a marriage party in Gumbat here on Sunday.

The women were busy in celebrating the wedding of Azmat, son of Khyal Mohammad, when a wall and the roof of the house weakened by rains caved in. The women were shifted to local rural health centre. Two of the injured were taken to the district hospital.

Meanwhile, body of a man who was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Jungle Khel was found in the fields at Biana area on Sunday.

The police said the victim, Azizur Rehman, was ambushed by some armed men who later threw his body in the fields. The victim’s brother Hashim registered a report against the unknown killers.—Correspondent

Doctors’ negligence

MARDAN, Sept 4: Family members of a woman, who expired here at the DHQ hospital allegedly because of negligence of the staff of labour room, have demanded an inquiry into the incident. They alleged the concerned doctor was not present at duty.

Faqir Mohammad, brother of the woman, told Dawn he and his relatives rushed his sister from Kati Gari village in precarious condition to the labour room of the DHQ hospital but there was no concerned lady doctor and other staff on duty. He said his sister died due to absence of staff.

Later, the MS Dr Mohammad Tahir met with relatives of the deceased and got written complaints from them against the lady doctor and other staff of labour room.

It is learnt he has suspended the duty nurse, mid-wife and sweeper, beside ordering inquiry against the lady doctor.—Correspondent

Journalist’s mother passes away

PESHAWAR, Sept 4: The mother of Rahimullah Yusufzai, resident editor of daily The News International, Peshawar, passed away here on Sunday evening after protracted illness.

She was the widow of Haji Adam Khan. She was also the mother of Khalid Mahmood.

Her Namaz-i-Janaza would be held at her village Ghundo Shamozai in Katlang tehsil of the Mardan district at 11am on Monday (today). —Bureau Report
