Protest against Hangu killing

PESHAWAR, Sept 2: The local chapter of Ahle Sunnat-Wal-Jamaat held a protest demonstration near the press club against the killing of their leader Dr Khalid Nawaz Farooqi.

The protesters were led by Mohammad Ibrahim Qasim, Maulana Ismail Darvesh, Haji Saeedur Rehman. They were holding placards inscribed with demands for early arrest of those involved in the killing of their provincial leader.

Talking to media persons, Mr Qasmi said that Dr Khalid Nawaz Farooqi was employed at a government hospital in Hangu and was attacked by armed men on 23rd Ramazan and he later breathed his last on Thursday. The government, he said, should immediately arrest the killers and award them exemplary punishment. — Bureau Report

Two shot dead in Mardan

MARDAN, Sept 2: Two persons were killed and one was critically injured when their rivals opened indiscriminate firing on their car here on Friday, police said.

The officials of city police station said that the accused identified as Sarfaraz alias Faraji, Akbar Ali, Saraf Ali alias Matala, Walid Mir, Khanzada and Javed had allegedly killed Sani Gul and Saeed while their relative Alamzib received multiple bullet injuries when they were on way to their home in their car at Charsadda Chowk.

The police officials quoted Khalid Khan, relative of the deceased, as saying that the motive behind the double murder was a dispute over the ownership of a bus stand. He told police that the group led by the victim Saeed had filed a case in the court in this regard which was decided in his favour but their rivals were not ready to accept the court decision. —Correspondent

Tourists throng Galyat

ABBOTTABAD, Sept 2: Taking full advantage of Eid holidays, tourists from all over the country thronged Abbottabad and Galyat, while many more preferred to move to upper parts of Hazara, especially Naran and Kaghan valleys, to enjoy nature.

The only park in Abbottabad, Lady Garden, the famous Shimla resort and Ilyasi Masjid were full of picnickers. In a light drizzle, the tourists enjoyed the cool weather at Nathiagali, Donga Gali, Ayubia, Changla Gali and other scenic resorts. Most of the visiting families had brought their own food, while youngsters with cooking utensils were busy to make food. Some of youngsters travelled on motorbikes from lower parts of the country to visit the hilly areas. The district police had made special security arrangements at picnic points with heavy deployment to maintain law and order. — Correspondent

Distinction in LLB exam

PESHAWAR, Sept 2: A student of Peshawar Law College, Ms Sehrish Saeed, topped the LLB (Final) examination conducted by the University of Peshawar across the province by securing 1462 marks.

Ms Sehrish is the daughter of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary, late Saeedullah Jan, and granddaughter of late Justice (retd) Mian Shakirullah Jan of the high court. Ms Sehrish linked her success to the continuous guidance of her parents and teachers and her hard work. She said that her grandfather remained a source of inspiration for her and she wanted to follow his footsteps by joining the law profession. — Bureau Report

Two die in Nowshera

NOWSHERA, Sept 2: Two persons were killed while five others received injuries in two different incidents here.

In first incident, a car and a Suzuki van collided head-on at Nowshera Charsadda Road and as a result Ayaz died on the spot while five other including Rashid, Shehraz, Alamgir, Nadeem and Khano sustained injuries.

In the other incident, a man was found dead near Main Aisa, Akora Khattak. Police said that he had been shot in the head. Akora Khattak Police have registered a case and started investigation. — Correspondent

No flood threat in KP

PESHAWAR, Sept 2: The Flood Warning Centre (FWC), Peshawar on Friday rejected speculations regarding floods in Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

An FWC spokesman told reporters that there was no threat of floods in the province and the water situation in rivers was regularly being monitored. He also rejected rumours of flooding in Kabul River, which had created panic among the people of villages of Mohib Banda, Dheri Mian Ishaq and Nowshera Kalan.

The current spell of monsoon rains would continue for another four days and scattered rain with thundershowers in rest of the country including upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, he added.

Meanwhile, the mercury considerably dropped in Peshawar after showers on Thursday and Friday. According to spokesman of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), more rainfall was expected in Peshawar city and adjoining areas in the next 24 hours. — APP
