KARACHI, Aug 25: A sessions court on Thursday sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment in a robbery case.

The court found Mohammad Sajjad alias Sajju guilty of committing a robbery in a house and attempted to attack inmates in September 2008 within the remit of the Mobina Town police station.

Additional district and sessions judge (east) Chaudhry Waseem Iqbal pronounced the judgment after recording evidence of witnesses and final arguments from both sides.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 and ruled that in case of default the convict would have to undergo an additional two months imprisonment.

The court also extended the benefit of Section 382-B (period of detention to be considered while awarding sentence of imprisonment) of the Criminal Procedure Code to the convict and sent him back to prison along with conviction warrant to serve out the remainder of his sentence.

According to the prosecution, on Sept 29, 2008 Sajju along with his absconding associate broke into the house of Mohammad Taqi in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and robbed the inmates of cash, mobile phones and other valuables. They also fired at the brother of the complainant and injured him when he put up resistance. The accused was captured on the spot while his associate managed to flee, the prosecution said.

A case (FIR No.274/2008) was registered under Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 324 (attempt to commit murder) of Pakistan Penal Code.
