LAHORE, Aug 23: The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) on Tuesday fined 270 shopkeepers and vendors for overcharging in Ramazan bazaars and open markets, according to a handout.
CDGL teams, led by price magistrates, inspected 1,372 shopkeepers from Aug 21 to 23 and found 270 overcharging. The teams fined them Rs196,000 and got arrested five of them.
Also, District Coordination Officer Ahad Cheema held a meeting to review officials' performance and directed price magistrates to monitor prices of fruits, vegetables and other commodities, particularly sugar.
He said as a sufficient quantity of sugar was being supplied by mills to open market and all Ramazan bazaars officials should identify those involved in spreading rumors regarding shortage of sugar in the market.
He also asked the officials to initiate legal action against those chicken meat sellers involved in selling meat more than the rates fixed by the CDGL.
