Punished: The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) claimed on Thursday to have punished over 400 shopkeepers/vendors for overcharging and selling substandard commodities in Ramazan bazaars and the open market during a week.

This was stated in a meeting of price control magistrates presided over by District Coordination Officer Ahad Cheema at the Town Hall here on Thursday.

The meeting was briefed about the performance of magistrates in connection with maintaining price during a crackdown launched in all parts of the city. The participants were told that magistrates inspected 1,634 shopkeepers, wholesalers, retailers and commodity stockholders from Aug 12 to 18 out of which 397 were found involved selling commodities on higher rates. The magistrates fined Rs297,580 to 347 shopkeepers and arrested 50 after registering cases against them.

The DCO urged the magistrates to ensure the provision of good quality commodities in the open market and all 25 Ramazan bazaars.

He directed the officials concerned to remain in Ramazan bazaars from 9am to 5pm and work hard to facilitate consumers.

He asked the officials to get the market committee's price lists displayed at all stalls, shops at Ramazan bazaars as well as in the open market.
