SUKKUR, Aug 17: A jirga on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs900,000 on a man for killing his innocent wife in the name of honour.

The jirga chaired by landlord Ghulam Mohammad Bugti was held in the Bagan Bugti village near Tangwani in Kashmore district to settle the dispute of a woman, Ms Hajo killed some two months ago. The deceased woman's relatives and her husband Khadim were present in the jirga.

It was concluded after hearing both the sides that Ms Hajo didn't have illicit relations with any man and thus was innocent. Hence, it imposed a fine of Rs900,000 on Khadim to be paid to deceased woman's father Mohammad Nawaz Bugti. Khadim paid Rs200,000 immediately with the rest, he promised to pay in three instalments.

DEMO: A rally was organised by the secretaries of different union councils against non-payment of their salaries for last five months.

Participants of the rally after marching on different roads demonstrated outside the press club thus suspending traffic for an hour.

Abdul Aziz Khoso, Ghulam Shabbir Soomro and others alleged that misappropriation of millions of fund has resulted in deferment of their salaries.
