Amin clarifies

ISLAMABAD, Aug 16: Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim has refuted a news item appearing in press and electronic media in which he was quoted as saying before the FIA investigation team that Safdar Abbasi convinced Benazir Bhutto to open the sunroof of her vehicle and respond to her fans.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim has termed the news baseless and fabricated, aiming to tarnish his reputation.

Two car-lifters arrested

TAXILA, Aug 16: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Tuesday arrested two alleged car-lifters and recovered two stolen cars.

Sector Commander M-1 Asim Gulzar, while briefing newsmen here at Burhan base camp on Tuesday, said NHMP officials stopped a black Corolla car (LED-8873) on suspicion near Burhan Interchange. During search, it was found that the culprit had affixed a fake number plate while the original registration was LED-2269. The car-lifter, Tanveer Ahmed, was arrested.

During preliminary interrogation, he disclosed that he was hired for Rs25,000 to transport the car to Mardan from Lahore. He said the car had been stolen from the limit of Garden Town police station in Lahore.

In the other incident, the police recovered a Honda Civic (IDH-1397) stolen from the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi police station and arrested the car-lifter identified as Jamil Khan. — Correspondent

Girl assaulted

TAXILA, Aug 16: A teenaged girl was sexually assaulted by two persons in a village in the limits of Taxila police station on Monday night.

A student of class 10 reported to the police that she was sleeping in her room when two persons entered into her room and assaulted her. Later, they left her in a private hospital in unconscious condition.

Taxila police registered a case against the accused after medical examination of the victim. — Correspondent

Rescue 1122 performance

RAWALPINDI, Aug 16: Since its inception four years ago, the Rescue 1122 has rescued 37,795 victims in Rawalpindi city while its average response time was 4.9 minutes.

In its four years performance report, the emergency service has successfully conducted 35,085 rescue operations in Rawalpindi district. The service responded to 15,807 road traffic accidents, 2,341 fire incidents, 35 building collapse incidents, 26 explosion, 467 crime incidents including bullet injuries, violence, robbery cases, 71 drowning incidents and 103 animals rescue operations.

The service also responded to 6,235 medical emergency calls from homes, provided them emergency medical treatment and shifted them efficiently to the hospitals. The service average response time to all emergencies was 4.9 minutes.
