LAHORE, Aug 15: A Lahore High Court division bench released on bail former Punjab heath director general Dr Saeed Qureshi on Monday after suspending his three-year imprisonment, handed down by an accountability court.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed a reference against Dr Qureshi, Ayaz Chaudhry, Muhammad Ashraf, Nazim Ali and Zahid Kaleem for embezzling millions of rupees in purchase of syringes and vaccine for hospitals in province.

The court acquitted all the accused except Dr Qureshi.

The accused through his counsel argued that he had no role in the scam but a lobby in the department implicated him in the case.

The Lahore High Court bench allowed bail subject to furnishing of surety bonds to the tune of Rs200,000 million.
